SUMMARY
The buyer is responsible for securing quotations for direct material, creating purchase orders, managing supplier relationships, and supporting the Operations/Business from its supply base. Buyer will report directly to the purchasing manager. They will utilize ERP system to manage transactions, purchase orders, invoice receipts, and align with Accounts Payable.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Direct Purchasing
- Perform day-to-day purchasing activities as they relate to sourcing of direct material.
- Manage communication with the supply base and the production planners.
- Coordinate updates which provide status of deliveries and manage the exceptions accordingly.
- Organizational Skills
- Retain ownership and organization of purchase orders, receipts and other deliverables as they relate to the supply base.
- Work directly with operations, IT, and Accounts Payable, utilizing ERP system to manage sourced material.
- Communicate updates accordingly with team members.
- Teamwork
- Develop relationships with internal colleagues and external supply base, to ensure business continuity of material delivery.
- Participate in planning meetings and provide information critical to the success of production needs.
- Supply Chain Alignment
- Work in conjunction with the Purchasing Manager and the Commodity Managers, to improve supply base performance.
- Implement corrective measures to improve efficiencies and deliverables for the company.
- Sourcing Experience
- Utilize experience in sourcing to support any indirect purchasing needs for the company.
- These include MRO purchases, one-time buys, along with any service related purchases that the operation or business requires.
EDUCATION
- Bachelor’s degree with a focus in business management or operations
- Technical degree and experience will be considered as well.
EXPERIENCE
- About 3 years plus experience (direct material sourcing preferred).
- Previous experience working with MRP/ERP systems.
- Procurement and commodity management experience.
