Position Description: The Dean of Academics leads a division of faculty and staff members representative of programs and coursework applicable to the College's transfer degrees. The Dean directs new programming, promotes partnership opportunities, and leads the division to provide a student learning experience aligned with the College's instructional standards. The position serves as a Campus Safety Authority as required by federal law in the Clery Act. Position Responsibilities: 15.00% - Serve on President's Staff, Dean's Council, Instructional Council and other college committees as requested or volunteered. Facilitate the College's Learning, Instruction & Curriculum Committee. 15.00% - Explore and develop new programming designed to increase institutional enrollment and services; assist with curriculum/program changes, and enhance college partnerships and processes. 20.00% - Provide division leadership with direct and indirect supervision of faculty and staff. 10.00% - Engage in strategic planning in collaboration with division's management to support college priorities and division needs. 10.00% - Develop and lead the budget in collaboration with division's management. 10.00% - Direct instructional reviews of the division's programs and disciplines. 10.00% - Ensure the incorporation of student learning assessment at the program, co-curricular and course levels. 5.00% - Performs other duties as needed or assigned. 5.00% - Stay abreast of legislative, governmental and agency regulations and guidelines as applicable to transfer education. Expectations: Motivate and influence others; serve with trust, diplomacy and confidentiality; and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external constituencies. Support college strategies focused on enrollment, retention, and completion. Lead and direct the division to serve responsively to the educational needs of students, partners, and communities. Demonstrate commitment to the highest ethical standards of professionalism. Adhere to college policies, procedures, and processes. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Experience - Five years to ten years of similar or related experience. Education - A Master's degree or a specialized certification program taking one year or more of coursework beyond a Bachelor's degree. Interpersonal Skills - The ability to motivate or influence others is a material part of the job, requiring a significant level of diplomacy and trust. Obtaining cooperation (internally and/or externally) is an important part of the job and a high level of interpersonal skills is critical to the success of this position. Work frequently involves contacts requiring considerable discussion of problems, material presentations, and resolving issues impacting departments or divisions. Other Skills - Master's degree required. Doctorate preferred. Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items, driving an automobile, etc. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
