Position Description: The Student Employee-CKUB position reports to the Director of the Central Kansas Upward Bound Program. Duties will be assigned and vary depending on which semester it is. This position is 100% grant funded. Employment may be contingent upon continued grant funding. Position Responsibilities: 10.00% - Chaperone cultural and educational activities and trips during school year & summer program including evening, weekend and overnight trips and/or
10.00% - Plan and provide tutoring assistance, recreational opportunities, and other support activities to meet the needs of participants and/or 10.00% - Work in the CKUB office answering phones, filing and other office related duties and/or 10.00% - Consulting with the following BCCC employees as needed; the project staff, housing staff, security guards, facilities staff, nurse, school officials and/or 5.00% - Acting as a lifeguard during activities in the pool area and/or 5.00% - Teaching a class during the Summer Program and/or 5.00% - Drive 10 passenger vans to assigned destinations. 40.00% - Chaperone participants over night in Barton Community College Housing complex during summer semester. 5.00% - Performs other duties as needed or assigned. Expectations: 1. Demonstrate commitment to the highest ethical standards of professional practice, as well as personal and professional integrity.
2 Remain on campus during scheduled on call work days.
3. Ability to carry out job responsibilities with minimal direct supervision.
4. If working during summer semester, must live on campus. Room and Board will be provided. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Experience - At least one year of college experience preferred. Education - GPA of 2.5 Other Skills - Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to pass a background check. Backgrounds similar to target population are preferred. Lifeguard certification required for lifeguard position. Physical Requirements: The work requires minor physical exertion such as short periods of standing, walking over tough, uneven surfaces, some recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities. Job may require recurring lifting of lightweight objects with infrequent bending or stooping alternating with the lighter activities. Job requires minimal agility and dexterity. Occasional exposure to objectionable conditions or variations such as those found in variable weather conditions or light industrial settings. Wages/Other: This position pays $9.00/hour.
