Summary
The accountant’s function is to ensure the proper entry and computing of results for selected transactions entrusted to them. The accountant will be responsible for entry, maintenance, and analysis of accounting and payroll data in the accounting system primarily for establishing correct posting to labor and job cost accounts. Accountant will transact entries related to accounts payable and accounts receivable. Accountant will follow established standards, perform entry/update of transactions into the accounting system, and analyze other inputs for conformance to standards. Accountant will monitor and report on segments of inventory, payroll, and perform other month-end close and reconciliation tasks as ability and needs further expand and align.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, TRAINING, EXPERIENCE, AND LICENSES
The ideal Accountant candidate should have knowledge of bookkeeping and generally accepted accounting principle applicable to small to mid-sized privately held companies. Demonstrable basic to intermediate skills in Microsoft Excel are required. A degree in accounting, finance, or other business curriculum is preferred, but experience with demonstrated skill set would be considered in lieu of a degree. A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar role requiring either payroll processing or accounts payable entry is required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THIS JOB
Weekly payroll processing w/ external provider and resulting journals necessary for accounting system entry
Maintenance of records in automated systems for customer, vendors, and employees
Entry of invoices from vendors into Accounts Payable, and balancing of said entries
Basic journal entries, from templates, requiring some calculations and judgement
Other accounting projects to include audit, reconciliations, ad-hoc reporting
REQUIRED TO SATISFACTORILY PERFORM THE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THIS JOB
Solid organizational, communication, and personal integrity are required. Strong reasoning and calculation ability. Must be able to learn processes and replicate under supervision but replicate with independent effort afterwards. Creativity and resourcefulness within the confines of GAAP and available systems. Skills adopting a new ERP/accounting software must be a strength. A bona-fide interest in understanding how accounting and finance are foundational elements of business success, and a desire to learn beyond the numbers.
TOOLS, EQUIPMENT, COMPUTER SKILLS TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Basic to intermediate MS Excel skills, with a specific desire to learn more. Comfort with other MS Office or similar products. Familiarity and comfort using technology in business. Intuitive and curious nature regarding software tools, and a clear interest in learning more.
