About the Company

The Lighting Design Group (“LDG”) is a private equity-backed, preeminent broadcast television lighting design services firm with $20-30M in revenue operating in New York City. LDG works with blue-chip global television networks, celebrated television shows, theatrical productions, new media, and multi-national corporations providing market-leading lighting design and production services.

About the VP Finance Role

The VP Finance will be a key business partner to the President, executive leadership, and the firm’s private equity sponsors. The VP Finance will be responsible for oversight of the firm’s financial reporting, planning, and analysis functions which include periodic financial reports, organizational budgets, company performance metrics, analysis of capital investment initiatives, annual audited financials, and other ad-hoc reports as required by the firm, its sponsors, or its partners. Additionally, the VP Finance will work with senior management to identify and assess strategic business opportunities including potential strategic partnerships, operational improvements, M&A opportunities, and capital investments in existing business lines. Further, the VP Finance would be encouraged to get involved with operational management given the firm’s entrepreneurial approach.

The VP Finance will lead a lean team including a longstanding Accounting Manager, and leverage technology, service providers, and operational resources to ensure an efficient, responsive organization. The right fit will be operationally inclined and willing to roll up their sleeves to make upstream operational improvements to drive an improved reporting process. Additionally, they will be comfortable making data-based recommendations to the company executive and board-level leadership. They MUST have previous experience with accounting and be comfortable overseeing journal entries and closing month and quarterly reporting.

Areas of Responsibility

Financial Reporting

  • Partner with President and firm leadership, as well as the private equity sponsor to support reporting and business planning requirements;
  • Manage the reporting of forecasts and metrics to management;
  • Review and deliver critical analysis to senior management on financial forecasts including a full analysis of significant areas of risk and a variance analysis;
  • Lead in the preparation of the monthly and quarterly reporting packages including MD&A;
  • Provide hands-on management and be willing to develop and mentor a best-in-class finance and accounting function;
  • Complete monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process while ensuring compliance with GAAP and other regulatory agency, financial institution, and private equity sponsor requirements;
  • Work closely with the firm’s auditors to ensure a frictionless and efficient audit process;
  • Provide ad-hoc reporting to firm sponsors and creditors on an as needed basis;
  • Develop and maintain strong accounting systems and procedures to ensure accurate, timely, and efficient processing of financial data;

Financial Strategy

  • Lead financial strategy, budgeting, reporting, tax, and audit efforts, including ongoing analysis of business operations and treasury functions;
  • Provide direction for strategic financial issues and guide management on key financial business decisions;
  • Lead capital structure planning activities and review and provide analysis of capital plan.
  • Partner with senior management to analyze and evaluate potential strategic acquisitions and divestitures;
  • Financial Operations

  • Manage daily financial operations including oversight of payroll, cash management, accounts payable, accounts receivable;
  • Actively manage liquidity and forecast cash flows;
  • Work closely with the ERP system and outside database consultants in designing, developing and implementing reporting tools to achieve significant improvements in the timeliness of required information;
  • Design and develop reports to facilitate the transfer of information and provide timely analytics to decision makers;
  • Manage all facets of tax operations, including reporting, planning, and compliance. Work closely with outside advisers to ensure all filings are completed in an efficient and timely manner;
  • Education and Experience Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in accounting or finance a plus;
  • CPA Certification.
  • 7 years of relevant financial experience with experience managing teams of financial and strategic professionals;
  • Must be NYC-based and willing to come into the Manhattan office at least 3 days a week;
  • Relevant experience with manufacturing-related industries, previous private equity portfolio company experience preferred;
  • Previous financial role with hands-on experience and demonstrated ability to effect change and influence business unit performance;
  • Demonstrated competence in financial reporting, financial analysis, budgeting and general oversight;
  • Strong team building and team management skills;
  • Strong working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
  • Understanding of managerial accounting and performance metrics;
  • Familiarity with operations and management concepts for medium-sized businesses;
  • A bias towards action;
  • Strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to interact across varying levels of the organization;
  • Ability to develop, mentor, and grow employees;
  • Exhibit superior organizational habits;
