CHAPEA Console Specialist

The CHAPEA Console Specialist will support the JETS II contract in Houston, Texas. NASA's Crew Health and Performance Exploration Analog (CHAPEA) is a series of analog missions that will simulate year-long stays on the surface of Mars. Bastion is recruiting console specialists to support the CHAPEA effort. Console support is divided into 5 shifts (First Shift 7am -3pm, Second Shift 3pm - 11pm, Third Shift 11pm -7am, Weekend First Shift 7am-3pm, Weekend Second Shift 3pm-11pm)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Contribute to the success of the mission by providing 24/7 mission control support for NASA's groundbreaking CHAPEA 1-year Mars surface mission analog study.


• Become a guardian of safety by successfully completing a rigorous training and skill certification process and performing real-time evaluations of conditions within the Mars analog habitat to ensure the well-being of the crew and the integrity of the facility.


• Stay ahead of the curve by maintaining constant situational awareness of crew activities and habitat functions to proactively address potential safety concerns.


• Keep the mission on track by providing daily status reports to the mission operations lead, highlighting key progress, and identifying any emerging issues.


• Maintain a seamless flow of information by meticulously documenting operational logs/notes, checklists and effectively sharing critical information across all shifts.


• Ensure a smooth transition by conducting thorough and concise shift handovers, leveraging logs, notes, and reports to ensure continuity of operations.


• Collaborate effectively by participating in daily status meetings and fostering a strong professional relationship with the NASA customer and other NASA support contractors.


• Embrace the challenge of working 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift operations, with rotating shifts throughout the year-long analog mission.


• Other duties as assigned.

• Must have 5 years of recent and related experience.

DESIRED:

• A strong foundation: High School diploma.


• Experience: 5 years of work experience in a team environment or 2 years of work experience with 2 successful years of college.


• A passion for space exploration: STEM degree from an accredited school or currently pursuing a science or engineering degree at an accredited institution.


• Hands-on experience: Prior experience with NASA analog missions or relevant educational activities.


• Technical expertise: IT system administrator experience, including troubleshooting.

WORK LOCATION:

• This position is located onsite.


• This position offers a 9/80 schedule, every other Friday off.


• This position may require some travel.

BACKGROUND INVESTIGATIONS REQUIRED:

All Bastion employees must be able to pass a national agency check, some positions require a clearance and will require an extensive background verification/check process.

DRUG AND ALCOHOL SCREENING REQUIRED:

All Bastion employees must be able to pass pre-employment drug screen; some contracts require participation in periodic random drug and alcohol screening programs.

• Must have experience with Microsoft Office Suite.

• Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on the task.


• Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time).


• May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time).


• Regular attendance in accordance with an established work schedule is critical.


• Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
