What are the responsibilities and job description for the Database Analyst PTE V position at Bates Technical College?
Reporting to the Executive Director of IT, this position oversees the data collection, data analysis, data entry, and preparation of college data reports for assessment, planning, and other research functions. The Database Analyst provides data management for the college's regional and other accrediting agencies, manages Federal and State data reporting and participates collaboratively and professionally with other faculty and staff to accomplish the data and reporting needs for the college. This is a temporary position funded by a five-year Title III Strengthening Institutions grant which ends Oct 2026.
As per Bates Professional Technical Employees (PTE) agreement, Section 21.1, this position will be open to all permanent bargaining unit members for a minimum period of 5 days. Essential Functions

- Collect, analyze, and report data and information for Title III grant and other mandatory reporting and data-informed decision-making.
- Facilitate the development of new automations at the college, including things like on-boarding students/staff, assigning licenses, off-boarding, and more.
- Primary focus on process improvements via data and automation.
- Support implementation of assessment and strategic planning initiatives for continuous improvement.
- Respond to routine and complex data requests on campus; respond to information requests for information and analysis appropriately including through the use of large-scale complex databases.
- Support automated and sustainable web-based reporting systems, scorecards and dashboards using SQL and tools like Tableau or PowerBI.
- Work with IT services to develop, implement, and test database applications and ensure data accuracy, security, and integrity.
- Build database queries, using both legacy and new technologies; extract data from disparate internal and external sources for ad hoc and standard data requests in a timely manner.
- Develop and maintain documentation of projects.
- Download, append, and maintain data warehouses and other SBCTC tools.
- Develop and maintain systems in response to reporting requirements from governmental agencies, such as the U.S. Department of Education, the State Board for Community and Technical Colleges, and others external entities as required. Enter, upload, submit data as necessary.
- Support industry certification and accreditation work across the college.
- Ensure compliance with federal, regional, and state requirements for secure data storage and appropriate data publication.
- Accountable for keeping personal development up-to-date; adding to skills and knowledge through courses that may be available through the Bates Technical College courses, professional development committees, etc.
- Participate actively and collaboratively on committees for college as needed including but not limited to staff recruitment, college councils, etc.
- Additional activities, duties and responsibilities may change to meet college needs.
Supervisory Responsibilities

- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with coursework that includes knowledge of research methods, statistics, and/or data systems design & management.

Preferred Qualifications
- Master of Science in Data Science or a Master of Science in Applied Statistics and Analytics
- Two (2) years of experience in higher education research, evaluation, and assessment.
- Demonstrated proficiency developing advanced queries in SQL.
- Experience with data modeling techniques and demonstrated ability to create, deploy and maintain large relational databases and data warehouses in a SQL environment.
- Experience designing and deploying interactive web-based dashboards using data visualization tools such as Tableau and PowerBI.
- Previous experience in a community or technical college research environment preferred.
- Experience using PeopleSoft and/or Customer Relationship Management (CRM) technologies.
