In this paid internship You will be exposed to a dynamic working environment surrounded by world-renowned experts in the field of nuclear fuel research. You will have the opportunity to fully immerse yourself in post-irradiation examination (PIE) techniques at INL's top PIE facilities. You will work closely with fuel research principal investigators to analyze PIE data from, but not limited to, scanning electron microscopy and produce reports based on the analyzed data. Reporting to the Fuel Development, Performance, and Qualification group. This team works a 9x80 schedule, and works onsite at our Idaho Falls campus. Start date and duration of internship vary based on project and student availability. You may be eligible for course credit for this internship if approved by your university.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements :
Undergraduate Degree Program / Master's Degree Program / Doctorate Degree Program enrolled full time at an accredited college / university studying Materials Engineering, Materials Science, or related field.
- Experience or coursework with materials analysis in areas such as, Microstructural characterization, Microstructural Evolution, Cross Section Analysis, or Radiation Damage (Segregation, Voids, Bubbles)
A minimum overall 3.0 GPA
Authorization to work in the U.S. (including CPT and OPT)

Undergraduate Internships ($26.16 / hour - $31.47 / hour)
Masters Internships and PhD Internships Pre-Candidacy ($32.87 / hour - $35.26 / hour)
PhD Internships Post-Candidacy ($35.95 / hour - $38.41 / hour)
