Position Summary:
The Summer Internship Program offers students work experience and professional guidance in several areas of the organization. Interns contribute to projects that support departmental work, develop new skills, and gain insight into their career interests. Interns will have the opportunity to explore behind the scenes of Battery Park City Authority’s innovative vision and design, complex public space management, leadership in sustainable practices, and commitment to outstanding public resources.
Essential Duties:
The Programming Intern plays a key role in preparing and facilitating Battery Park City Authority’s vibrant and varied public programs for visitors of all ages. The Programming Intern will help document summer programming via photo, video and media. Working with the Art Director, the intern will also help organize photo/media files, edit footage and create graphic design projects to be used for promotion and educational purposes.
A wide variety of programs and events are offered throughout the summer outdoors in the parks and indoors in managed community spaces of Battery Park City. Given the timing of BPCA’s public programs and events, the intern must be flexible and spontaneous regarding their availability which may include evenings and weekends.
The Programming intern, with the guidance of the Art Director and Director of Parks Programming will create a summer season sizzler reel that will highlight events and activities in Battery Park City that may be used for future promotions. Part of the process will include working closely with the Art Director on selecting target audiences, park locations and select events which will dictate the design.
Additional Responsibilities include:
- Document summer events and programs as scheduled
- Take an active role loading, transporting, and unloading supplies, etc. at programs and events
- Organize footage and photos so they can be easily found for video/media-based projects
- At the direction of the Art Director create promotional/ educational graphics
- Perform other duties as assigned
Education and Skills:
- Relevant Degree and/or minimum 2 years relevant experience
- Demonstrated knowledge of photography, graphic design, social media and/or film and media production
- High level of competency within program area and the ability to keep current with trends within the field
- Experience and willingness to work with people of all cultures, abilities and experience
- Valid US Driver’s License preferred
- Ability to speak in languages other than English a plus
Physical Requirements:
- Able and willing to work outdoors in all types of weather
- Ability to lift and carry 35 lbs. preferred
