This position will focus on developing and capturing work related to governmental agencies including water resources; water/wastewater piping, conveyance and treatment; and transportation. This key position supports a proactive and growing company by providing research and generating leads, develop and maintain relationships with key contacts, mentor and manage professional organization participation plan, attend information sessions and conferences, and lead state specific Business Development meetings.

The Texas Business Development Manager will work in collaboration with technical staff, client managers, Marketing, corporate Vice Presidents, and the Vice President of Business Development.

The ideal candidate is a proactive business developer who understands the government agency market and has familiarity with the challenges that communities, utilities, and agencies in the municipal arena face every day.

What your day-to-day will look like

  • Identify and develop new business opportunities within the state of Texas. Engage prospective clients, understand clients’ goals, needs, and issues, and maintain productive relationships. Learn gather and communicate information on future opportunities. Monitor industry trends, client needs, and competitors in the region.
  • Develop and manage annual business development plan for Texas region.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders internally to ensure we have appropriate marketing collateral, business development and marketing plan strategies, social media content, etc. that not only expand our services to existing clients but also introduce the firm to new prospects.
  • Develop and manage professional organization participation plan and facilitate participation by company staff.
  • Represent firm at industry meetings, conferences, and client events.
  • Lead the formal pursuit process. Participate in the GO/ NO GO decision on new pursuits, develop pursuit strategy, and assist with preparation of project-specific proposals/qualification statements and participate in proposal interviews.
  • Assist the client managers/technical staff with business development and marketing opportunities in your assigned office region.
  • Make frequent client contact within the region, respond directly to client requests when appropriate, and forward requests to responsible managers as needed.
  • Monitor client satisfaction and ensure that their requests are addressed.

Education/Certification Requirements

• Professional Engineering License in Texas preferred.

Must-haves, what you will bring

  • 8 years of experience in the engineering services for governmental agencies (focusing on water/ wastewater and transportation).
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret engineering service trends based on general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from other managers, clients, customers and the general public.
  • Strong written and verbal skills; Ability to write reports, business correspondence and proposal narratives.
  • Ability to work in a team environment while coaching and mentoring staff.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Flexibility to travel between Texas offices.
  • Active membership and participation with various engineering markets (ie AWWA, WEF, ASCE, APWA).

Compensation: The pay range for this role is $140,000 - $170,000. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, and certifications.
