At Beacon Veterinary Specialists, we’re looking for a motivated individual to join our team as a Surgery Doctor’s Assistant. In this role, you'll play a vital part in ensuring smooth workflows, providing excellent care, and fostering strong relationships with clients and colleagues alike.
What You’ll Do:
As a Surgery Doctor’s Assistant, you will be the backbone of our surgical team, supporting the doctor and staff in a variety of ways:
Serving as the primary liaison between the surgical team and clients, ensuring clear communication and a positive experience.
Assisting in coordinating pre-operative and post-operative tasks, patient transfers, and maintaining accurate medical records.
Helping prepare treatment estimates and ensuring proper patient monitoring during sedated procedures.
Collaborating closely with the Surgery Lead and other departments to ensure seamless clinic operations.
Schedule: Training schedule of Monday - Thursday 11:00 am - 7:30 pm for the duration of 6 - 8 weeks. Upon the completion of training, you will transition to a schedule of Monday - Friday 9:00 am - 5:30 pm.
In this role, you’ll also act as an "air traffic controller"—making sure everyone on the team knows where each patient is in the process and when special attention is needed. Your excellent communication skills, medical expertise, and passion for patient care will be key in building strong, lasting bonds with our clients and their pets.
Key Responsibilities:
Explaining the consultation process and appointment expectations to pet owners.
Obtaining patient vital signs and brief histories as needed.
Starting the doctor’s notes by entering patient history into the electronic medical record.
At the doctor’s direction, creating medical treatment plans, reviewing them with pet owners, and discussing associated costs.
Collecting deposits and dispensing medications, as necessary.
Preparing and reviewing patient discharge paperwork, and facilitating go-home appointments.
Managing phone and email communications on behalf of doctors and technicians.
Discussing cases with clients and referring veterinarians to determine the urgency of appointments.
Ensuring doctors review patient diagnostic test results in a timely manner.
