SUMMARY

What is my purpose?

The Jr. Planner and Purchaser supports the manufacturing facility by optimizing production schedules, coordinating material procurement, and analyzing performance data to enhance efficiency and throughput. This role is responsible for ensuring schedule compliance, evaluating vendor performance, and identifying opportunities to improve operations. By collaborating with key stakeholders, including the Scheduling Supervisor, Plant Management, and Customer Service, this individual plays a pivotal role in driving operational success and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

As the Jr. Planner and Purchaser, you'll be a key link between production, customer service, and procurement, ensuring that the facility runs efficiently and meets customer demands. You'll analyze data, improve workflows, and directly contribute to reducing costs, enhancing quality, and optimizing machine performance. Your insights will drive tangible improvements, allowing you to see the direct impact of your work on the organization's success. This role offers the opportunity to work collaboratively with production teams, experience manufacturing operations firsthand, and play a crucial role in building a culture of continuous improvement.

What am I responsible for?

  • Assists in coordinating all production activity with sales, sales service, and shipping to ensure customers' orders are being handled properly.
  • Assists in ordering raw materials, including pallets, corrugated board, etc from best supplier in coordination with due date and relevance to run date to meet on time delivery.
  • Assist in creation and issuing of Purchase orders for various items to be procured in the plant.
  • Coordinates make ups with supplier when material is rejected.
  • Under the direction of the Production Planner, evaluates vendor quotes and services to determine most desirable suppliers.
  • Calculates Machine Availability schedule and distributes to Customer Service, Sales, and Pre-Production in a timely manner.
  • Assists in the managing, planning, organizing, coordinating, and assigning work for each machine center.
  • Assists with managing Planning Board and the Amtech system for planning and scheduling.
  • Assists in communicating and negotiating scheduling exceptions or changes directly with Customer Service Representatives.
  • Communicates with Production Supervisors, leadmen, and when necessary the Director of Manufacturing, regarding order line up.
  • Leads the production meetings with all departments, as needed.
  • Runs and manages the schedule in the absence of the Production Planner.
  • Recommending viable solutions to reduce production costs as well as improve production processes and product quality.
  • Evaluate current and past data and performance. Analyze past results, perform variance analysis, identify trends, and make recommendations for improvements.
  • Produce departmental and monthly reports, which include key metrics, performance results, and variance reporting.
  • Update board cost and material cost in the maintenance tables to ensure accurate pricing in the costing and estimating tables.
  • Reports efficiency and prepares reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs.
  • Assist with the maintenance of fixed assets and collaborates with maintenance department to review trends and opportunities for improvement.
  • Monitor variances and follow up on discrepancies.
  • Identify opportunities for performance improvement across the plant.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCIES

What do I need to be successful?

  • Equivalent to completion of two years college is highly preferred or two years of work experience, preferably supplemented by coursework and training in business, customer relations, and project management.
  • Considerable knowledge of company operations, service practices and production procedures; ability to coordinate, and evaluate the schedule of multiple machines.
  • Moderate to high proficiency of knowledge on Microsoft Suite - Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and professional working relationships with all department personnel; ability to plan, organize and assign work for all Machine Centers to meet priorities and deadlines; ability to tactfully and effectively update customer service and sales on scheduling and delivery.
  • Excellent analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to accuracy and detail required.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize task, multitask, and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • What kind of environment will I be working in?

  • You will be working at the main headquarters.
  • You will spend approximately 65% of time in an office on the computer, 15% of your time in meetings, 20% of your time on the Manufacturing and Distribution floor.
