Job description
The Aquatics Staff is responsible for ensuring the safety of the children and staff while on, in or near the water for swimming and boating. They are responsible for the operation and supervision of all waterfront activities. The goal is to improve each child’s swimming ability while at the same time promoting swimming and boating as recreational activities to be enjoyed safely. Swimming classes are held in Bay Cliff's indoor, heated pool and waterfront properties. The Aquatics Staff is part of the Activities Department at Bay Cliff. A SALARY PLUS ROOM AND BOARD ARE PROVIDED FOR THIS POSITION.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be:
- at least 18 years of age.
- lifeguard certified with a current certification equivalent to the Red Cross requirements for Lifeguarding and CPR/AED for children and adults. Certifications must be up-to-date and are to be posted at the pool.
- be dependable and mature.
- be positive, enthusiastic, and patient with children.
- be able to work independently, but also cooperatively as a member of a team, under the direction of the Activities Director.
Ability to:
- carry out all physical requirements for waterfront/pool safety and overall Bay Cliff Health Camp Safety Plan
- move safely across uneven surfaces.
- sit/stand for long periods of time.
- transport light to moderate objects short distances.
- to lift light objects from one level to another.
- make healthy decisions to promote physical and emotional stamina.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
POOL & WATERFRONT:
- Lifeguarding and supervising water safety for all camper and staff swimming activities.
- Discuss weekly lesson plans with the Activities Director & provide individual/group instruction following Red Cross guidelines.
- Ensure that counselors are in the pool assisting with their campers.
- Assist therapy staff while they conduct aquatic therapy with campers.
- Lifeguard and supervise weekend/evening free-time swimming sessions.
- Set up and supervise all beach and lake swimming activities. Swimming at any location other than the pool must be approved by the Activities Director and Camp Director.
- Perform regular pool maintenance tasks as determined by the Activities Director and Maintenance Supervisor.
- Comply with all State of Michigan requirements to insure safety. Keep daily records of pool use.
- Store all equipment for safety.
- Clean & sanitize bathrooms, shower areas, and sauna daily.
- Participate in the general camp program. This includes attendance at meals, helping counselors at evening programs, and participating in all-camp activities and special events.
- Accept assignments to help in other areas of camp when the pool is not operating.
- Provide coverage in other departments as needed Clean and maintain living quarters for the duration of employment.
- Comply with all end-of-camp check-out procedures.
BOATING:
- Assist the kayak and/or canoe instructors in the safe use of paddle crafts.
- Accompany all pontoon boat, canoe, and kayak activities. All boating activities must be approved by the Activities Director and Camp Director.
SAFETY EQUIPMENT:
- Responsible for the proper storage and maintenance of all required safety equipment.
Must be knowledgeable in the use of all safety equipment.
