What are the responsibilities and job description for the Seasonal Lifeguard position at City of Green Bay?
Responsible for ensuring a safe and comfortable environment for swimmers.
- Enforces and maintains familiarity with all pool rules.
- Makes requests and issues orders to patrons in a courteous and concise manner.
- Ensures all safety equipment is in good repair and keeps the pool area free of debris. Inspect safety equipment on a daily basis. Takes necessary action to prevent accidents.
- Participates in emergency procedure drills. Perform rescues and administers emergency first aid to sustain life and maintain life support until qualified medical personnel arrive. Provides proper first aid for minor accidents. Adheres to bloodborne pathogens procedures when administering First Aid and wears the proper personal protective equipment. Documents and reports all incidents in accordance with City and/or department procedures.
- Maintains a high level of personal fitness by participating in mandatory weekly swim rescue requirements. Attends mandatory in-service training pre-season and monthly throughout the season.
- Assists with building maintenance and assigned cleaning tasks.
- Follows all policies, procedures, and the philosophy that is set forth by the City of Green Bay Parks, Recreation, & Forestry.
- Must be at least 15 years of age.
- Must possess current certification in First Aid, CPR for Lifeguards, AED, and Lifeguard Training by the start of position.
- Experience with aquatics facilities.
A combination of equivalent experience and/or education may be considered.
- Working knowledge of aquatics facilities.
- Skill and ability to work with varied age groups. Considerable skill in proper swimming and rescue techniques, maneuvers, and procedures. Considerable skill in First Aid and CPR.
- Ability to be alert at all times. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to work effectively as part of a team and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to participate in weekly swim requirements. Ability to rescue swimmers and administer life saving techniques. Ability to work the required hours of the position, including mandatory pre-season in-service training and monthly training during the season.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to perform the following activities:
- Lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds.
- Frequent sitting, walking, standing, bending, twisting, squatting, crouching, and kneeling.
- Occasional climbing, pushing, and pulling.
- Ability to work in varied environmental conditions with exposure to chemicals.
