Job description
The activity instructor position is designed to give our campers hands-on learning experiences and physical activity throughout the day. Instructional time is spent having our campers experience new games/sports, activities and exploration. The activities team at Bay Cliff, has many different instructor positions which include: recreation, arts & crafts, performing arts, aquatics and nature. Our instructors hold daily learning sessions and assist in camp-wide programming, planning and implementation. The instructor's goal is to provide our campers with the ability to learn through adventurous exploration, while making gains in teamwork and relationships with their peers. It is important that our instructors are able to adapt games and activities to meet the needs of our campers. DATES OF EMPLOYMENT ARE JUNE 6 - AUGUST 5, 2025. A SALARY PLUS ROOM AND BOARD ARE INCLUDED.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be:
- at least 18 years of age.
- be dependable and mature.
- be positive, enthusiastic, and patient with children.
- be able to work independently, but also cooperatively as a member of a team, under the direction of the Activities Director.
- be flexible and adaptable.
PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Ability to:
- carry out all physical requirements for Bay Cliff Health Camp Safety Plan.
- move safely across uneven surfaces.
- sit/stand for long periods of time.
- transport light to moderate objects short distances.
- to lift light objects from one level to another.
- make healthy decisions to promote physical and emotional stamina.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Implement high interest, accessible, daily lessons that engage the campers in developmentally appropriate, hands-on learning and skill development.
- Hold “open hours” in your activity space daily.
- Plan and carry out at least one evening “all-camp” activity during the summer with the Activities Staff.
- Keep a notebook of lesson plans, activities, inventory, and ideas as a resource for future instructors.
- Carry out any other duties as may be assigned by the Activities Director and Camp Director.
- Participate in the general camp programs. This includes attendance at all meals, helping counselors at evening programs, and participating in all-camp activities and events.
- Prepare a list of supplies and equipment needed for your planned activities, if they are not on hand, submit a written request to the Activities Director well in advance of the activity.
- Attend daily department meetings.
- Keep work areas clean and organized.
- Be prepared and have the ability to adapt with different activities during inclement weather and/or conditions.
- Discuss written daily lesson plans with the Activities Director before the start of each week.
- Solicit ideas for activities from counselors and unit leaders as they know their campers’ interests and abilities.
- Ensure assistance of counselors who will work with their campers during scheduled activity.
- Provide coverage in other departments as needed. Comply with all end-of-camp check-out procedures.
