Job Title : Bar Manager

Reports To : Director of Clubhouse & Culinary Operations

FLSA Status : Non-Exempt

Department : Food & Beverage

Supervises : Bartenders

Prepared Date : September 2024

SUMMARY : Responsible for management of all bar areas in a manner most pleasing to members and guests. Supervises beverage department personnel. Assists with training beverage department personnel. Monitors inventory levels. Assists in development and implementation of operating procedures for beverage department. HOURS / DAYS Hours and Days fluctuate according to the time of year and activity level of the Club.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Project a friendly and helpful attitude to all members and guests of the club.
  • Performs regular duties of a bartender, including preparing garnishes, mixes and pre-mixed drinks, taking orders and serving snacks, food, and drinks.
  • Maintain and Order / Receive products - Beer, wine, liquor mixes, bar supplies with Accubar.
  • Maintains the cleanliness and sanitation of bar areas, glassware and equipment through regular inspections.
  • Ensures standard operating procedures are followed so bars are operated with efficiency and minimum labor costs.
  • Maintains an adequate supply of liquors, wines, beer, etc. through use of an effective inventory management system.
  • Assists with training, supervises bar personnel according to established club procedures.
  • Maintains product / sales control systems and procedures to help reduce employee theft and member charge discrepancies.
  • Assures that all laws applicable to beverage operations are consistently followed.
  • Works with Beverage Director and others as part of responsibility to ensure efficient beverage services in all the club's outlets for special functions.
  • Inspects to ensure that the club's sanitation, safety, maintenance and other programs are implemented and complied with as they apply to beverage operation.
  • Responsible for tip declaration.
  • Attend daily pre shift / communication meeting.
  • Complies with all laws / policies relating to the service of alcohol.
  • Adheres to end of shift report procedures.
  • Attends any food and beverage meetings.
  • Report to work as assigned in neatly pressed uniform and in accordance with Club uniform, grooming and dress policies.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE

  • Must have at least 3 years' experience as bartender in Private Club, Hotel or Restaurant.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • A thorough knowledge of drinks and bar service.
  • Must have precise understanding of craft cocktails and thorough beer and wine knowledge.
  • Detail oriented, have a strong work ethic and desire to exceed expectations at every opportunity.
  • Ability to supervise employees, including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
  • Experience with restaurant specific Point of Sale Programs required.
  • Must be computer proficient. Knowledge of windows-based programs such as Word, Excel. Must be able to use email and utilize internet.
  • Experience using Payroll Time and Attendance systems preferred.
  • Knowledgeable of food and wine pairings.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug test and background check in accordance with company hiring policy.
  • Must be able to read, write and communicate effectively in English.
  • CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • TIPS Certified / Safe Staff required.
  • First Aid / CPR / AED Certified preferred.
  • SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to provide legible written communication and write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal / communication and customer service skills. Must be a team player and have a positive upbeat personality.
  • Must be able to work, days, night, weekends and holidays and must be able to work long hours during season.
  • Ability to perform basic accounting and math computations. Analyze financial statements, manage cash flow and establish controls to safeguard funds.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedures manuals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral and diagram form.
  • Ability to adhere to state and local health and safety regulations.
  • Ability to react to constant changing work pressure environment.
  • Ability to be a clear thinker, analyze and resolve problems exercising good judgment even under pressure.
  • Requires ability to remember guest names.
  • May be required to operate golf cart or company vehicle.
  • Ability to ensure security and confidentiality of guest and BCCA information.
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    While performing the duties of this job : Requires constant (67% -100% of the time) standing or walking around for 6 to 14 hours daily. use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls and talk or hear. Requires constant lifting of food trays, dishes, tables, chairs and glassware (up to 50 pounds). Requires constant bending, carrying, reaching, and stretching. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust / focus.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    The work environment will entail all food and beverage outlets. While performing the duties of this job, the associate works in indoors and outside with weather conditions with severe sun exposure and in extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
