EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Enforces the codes that apply to the construction, alteration, movement, enlargement, roofs, reroofs, replacement," repair, equipment, use and occupancy, location, maintenance, removal and demolition of buildings or structures or any appurtenances connected or attached to such buildings or structures and dwellings.Inspects new and existing building construction for compliance with building code requirements, including site plans.Assists and advises applicants, contractors, building owners, and the general public of code violations and compliance.Inspects demolitions, site cleanups, docks, davits, seawalls, pools, patios, etc.Performs inspections/plans reviews in one or more of the following areas: building, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical and mobile homes.Reviews plans submitted for permits for compliance with applicable building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and mobile homes.Reviews permit applications to assure contractors meet state and local licensing requirements.Assures compliance of all County development orders, including water and sewer department regulations.Implements flood zones of properties as reviewed by planning and zoning department.Determines construction type, occupancy and total square footage of building.Calculates value of building and permit fees. Impact fees must also be calculated for buildings tying on to county sewer and water systems.Prepares reports, inspections and investigations as required.Confers with contractors, engineers, etc. and assists with resolving problems as they occur.Cross trains with other inspection staff to enhance job functions.Answers technical questions and assists applicants.Regular reliable full-time attendance as scheduledThe employer may add to or change duties at any time and as determined by the County and its leaders to best ensure that the public is served through the work of the Department.Performs other related duties as assigned
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Knowledge of local and State laws and regulations governing electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and building standards, building plumbing, electrical, mechanical and zoning codes and related laws and ordinance.Knowledge of proper procedures in reviewing permit applications to assure contractors meet state and local licensing requirements and learns fundamentals of and assures compliance with state energy codes.Knowledge of modern practices and methods employed in building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical and gas inspections and knowledge of modern principles and practices of civil engineering as applied to inspection of buildings.Knowledge of all types of building construction materials and methods, and of stages in construction when defects and violations may most easily be observed and corrected.Knowledge of all phases of construction for one and two family dwellings and/or commercial.Knowledge of building construction in area of licensing and/or review plans for code compliance.Must have good interpersonal and communication skills to deal with public.Outstanding project management and organizational skills.Excellent oral and written communication skills.Ability to detect structural and other faults and to perform inspectional activities of the county.Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications and blueprints quickly and accurately and compare them with construction in progress.Ability to prepare comprehensive reports and maintain adequate and accurate records with proficiency in the use of MS Word, Excel, and Outlook being essential.Ability to establish and maintain effective and satisfactory working relationships and maintain satisfactory working relationships on inspectional and regulatory matters with excellent oral and written communication abilities and able to operate cell phones and other electronic devices.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: Work requires exposure to environmental changes (e.g., outdoor weather and/or field conditions, warehouses, garages, etc.) or irate customers, extreme noise, odors, heights and/or dust.This position requires some exposure or risk to physical health and/or physical safety (e.g., exposure to environmentally hazardous material, assault and battery, heavy equipment, communicable disease, etc.). This position may require the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and may include completing and successfully passing medical evaluations.Stooping, sitting, crouching, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, hearing, seeing up close, seeing far away, kneeling, reaching, pulling, talking, standing, finger movement, repetitive motions, depth perception. Frequent lifting of 10 to 15 pounds; occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds and climbing of ladders for inspections in excess of 8 feet in height.WORK LOCATION: Remote Eligible - This position is assigned to a county worksite. However, in the sole discretion of Bay County BOCC, this position may be eligible for telework within the State of Florida.
