Job Description
Do you possess a Florida license as a Building Code Administrator/Building Official and want to live in a beautiful small town near the Emerald Coast? Do you want to be a part of a progressive, growing area that needs your expertise to ensure thoughtful, appropriate development and construction? If so, the City of Lynn Haven wants you! We are seeking an experienced Building Code Administrator/Building Official licensed in the State of Florida to lead the City as we grow and develop. This position requires appropriate technical, theoretical, and practical expertise and knowledge to enforce compliance with the current Florida Building Codes for building construction, as well as City Codes and Ordinances. Work is performed independently under the general direction of the City Manager. This position supervises a unit comprised of a building inspector and permitting specialists. Moreover, this position supervises and performs field inspections of new and existing residential and commercial construction to ensure compliance with building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical and other related codes, and ordinances; issues permits and notices of violations as appropriate; discusses nature of violations with contractors, subcontractors, and citizens; makes reports of inspections; reviews and approves routine plans and specifications for proposed new construction and building improvements.
The ideal candidate has the required Florida State License as Building Code Official/Administrator and holds a degree in building construction or related field. Exposure and knowledge of a wide variety of computer hardware and software systems is desired. Minimum of ten (10) years of experience as an architect, engineer, plans examiner, building code inspector, registered or certified contractor, or construction superintendent, with at least five (5) years of such experience in supervising employees. Candidates must be able to work with varying project deadlines, must have exceptional interpersonal and problem-solving skills, and must be able to determine policy or strategic directions.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee the permitting process for the City of Lynn Haven.
- Represent the City's permitting responsibilities, making professionally sound decisions.
- Approve construction documents, plans, blueprints and specifications.
- Schedule inspections for all phases of building construction.
- Professionally communicate permitting requirements to all interested parties.
- Ensure the entire staff represents the City in a professional and appropriate manner.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A degree in Building Construction or related field.
- A Florida Building Code Official license (preferred) or ability to receive, at a minimum, a provisional license with a full license to be earned within six months.
- Must be currently licensed as a 1 & 2 family dwelling inspector by the State of Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation, or be licensed in all fields including Building, Plumbing, Mechanical, and Electrical inspectors.
- Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with citizens, developers and builders, engineering associations, contractors, and related groups.
- Strong computer and internet skills.
- Must have a valid Florida Driver's License.
