What are the responsibilities and job description for the Concrete Finisher / Paver position at Bay Ltd.?
Job Summary :
The concrete finisher / paver smooths and finishes surfaces of poured concrete, such as sidewalks, roads, and curbs using a variety of hand and power tools. Aligns forms for sidewalks, curbs, gutters, patch voids, and uses saws to cut expansion joints.
Essential Functions :
Check the forms that hold the concrete to see that they are properly constructed
Set the forms that hold concrete to the desired pitch, depth, and align them
Spread, level, and smooth concrete using rake, shovel, hand or power trowel, hand or power screed, and float
Mold expansion joints and edges, using edging tools, jointers, and straightedge
Monitor how the wind, heat, or cold affect the curing of the concrete throughout the entire process
Ensure compliance of all safety procedures and policies while promoting company’s safety culture
Perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned
Education and Experience Requirements :
High School Diploma or GED required
At least 2 years’ experience in highway, bridge, sewer, and road construction
Skills / Key Competencies :
Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of structures for highways, bridges, sewers, and roads
Knowledge of arithmetic, geometry, etc.
Knowledge of machines, tools, designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Exercise discretion and independent judgement when handling day to day information
Excellent time-management skills to plan, organize, and prioritize tasks and responsibilities to meet deadlines and adjust to changing priorities
Ability to work cooperatively across all levels delivering on commitments – results oriented
Ability to complete work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
Ability to work under pressure to meet department targets and deadlines
Ability to work non-routine hours, when necessary
Ability and willingness to travel as required
Physical Requirements :
Ability to work outdoors, exposed to heat and humidity, cold and rain, and around heavy traffic areas
Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another
Ability to operate job related tools
Constantly perform repeating motions that may include feet, leg, wrists, hands and / or fingers
Work that includes moving and / or lifting objects up to 50 pounds, carry at least 30 pounds and up to 150 pounds with help
Ability to frequently walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground in varying weather conditions
