What are the responsibilities and job description for the Multicraft Helper position at Bay Ltd.?
Job Summary
The shop multi-craft helper assists and supports journeyman such as pipefitter, boilermaker, ironworker, welder, etc. with performing maintenance and installation related to various types of towers, heat exchangers, heaters, and plate piping.
Key Responsibilities:
- Participate in daily safety meetings, JSA's, and audits
- Cooperate with superintendents, foremen, supervisors in the shop, and coworkers
- Maintain the work area in a neat and orderly condition and cooperate with other departments in housekeeping endeavors
- Relay appropriate information to foremen
- Carry tools and equipment to job site
- Measure, read blueprints, use square, measuring tape, and ruler
- Cut materials to required dimensions
- Clean up work area when job is completed and return materials and equipment to appropriate location
- Attach slings or cables to objects requiring lifting
- Bolt or unbolt assemblies using wrenches, screwdrivers, and prying bars
- Install packing, catalysts, and desiccants in vessels
- Ability to cut, bevel, and grind
- Perform daily maintenance and safety checks
- Ensure compliance of all safety procedures and policies while promoting company's safety culture
- Perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED required
- At least 3 years' experience as a helper
- Ability to pass an HMC written craft test
Skills/Key Competencies:
- Working knowledge of materials, methods, and tools involved in construction
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and drawings
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Exercise discretion and independent judgement when handling day-to-day information
- Excellent time-management skills to plan, organize, and prioritize tasks and responsibilities to meet deadlines and adjust to changing priorities
- Ability to work cooperatively across all levels delivering on commitments – results oriented
- Ability to complete work with high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to work under pressure to meet department targets and deadlines
- Ability to work non-routine hours, when necessary
- Ability and willingness to travel as required
Physical Requirements:
- Work outdoors, exposed to heat and humidity, cold and rain, and around heavy traffic areas
- Move about to accomplish tasks or move from one worksite to another
- Operate job-related tools
- Constantly perform repeating motions that may include feet, leg, wrists, hands, and/or fingers
- Work includes moving and/or lifting objects up to 50 pounds, carry at least 30 pounds and up to 150 pounds with help
- Frequently walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground in varying weather conditions
