Job Summary:


Full-time faculty are responsible for providing quality instruction and academic advising to the students of Bay Mills Community College.  Faculty work under the supervision of the Director of Nursing, Dean of Science and Allied Health Education, the Vice President for Academic Affairs. Faculty for the college will meet academic and professional qualifications, will be dedicated to academic excellence and student-centered education, and will support the mission and objectives of Bay Mills Community College.  Full time faculty will meet academic and professional qualifications, demonstrate dedication to academic excellence and student-centered education, and will support the mission and objectives of Bay Mills Community College.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  1. Deliver and facilitate instruction. A minimum of thirty (30) credits must be taught during the academic year in order to maintain full-time status.
  2. Meet all scheduled classes/labs/clinics for the entire allotted time.
  3. Use teaching methods and media designed to reach students of varying educational and experiential backgrounds to allow each student the opportunity to master the course objectives.
  4. Provide course syllabi which include specific measurable course objectives, explicit grading criteria and scale, prerequisites, student responsibilities, sequencing of instruction, assignments, etc.
  5. Assess students’ mastery of course content and provide feedback on a continual basis both to the student and to the Assessment Coordinator.
  6. Maintain and submit records as required by the Office of Academic Affairs, Office of the Registrar, the Department Chair, and the Assessment Coordinator, meeting prescribed deadlines.
  7. Implement and adhere to the college’s Assessment of Student Learning Program.
  8. Recommend reference and instructional material to the Department Chair and the college library.
  9. Schedule and maintain a minimum of 24 hours of on-campus activities, which include: course planning and preparation, instruction, student advising, and general office hours. The remaining 16 hours per week may be completed remotely or on-campus.
  10. Participate with college committees and various college activities as requested or assigned, including meetings and events which may be scheduled outside the instructor’s designated office hours.
  11. Provide academic advising to students as needed.
  12. Maintain a working knowledge of the BMCC administrative student management software system as it relates to classroom management and the advising of students.  Maintain working knowledge of the MOODLE system for online delivery of courses.
  13. Support and participate in departmental recruiting efforts to maintain sufficient student population to sustain the department.
  14. Follow the college procedures and submit all required documentation for instructor absences, student complaints, violations of academic dishonesty, etc.
  15. Collaborate with the Department Chair in assessment and classroom-based research and assist in developing and refining curriculum as needed.
  16. Other duties may be assigned during the contract year as determined by the Vice President of Academic Affairs and the President of BMCC.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


  1. Understanding of BMCC’s collegiate academic programs.
  2. Advanced word processing and computer skills, understanding of collegiate student and course management systems preferred. Must have knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  3. Demonstrated understanding of and a commitment to the tribal college mission and purpose teaching and learning, high academic standards, and student success.
  4. Compliance with state, federal and local laws/regulations relating to programs, governmental compliance, and other regulatory standards such as state Board of Nursing and national accreditation guidelines.
  5. Ensure that all educational activity is conducted in a legal and ethical manner.
  6. BLS and ACLS certification provider from the American Heart Association required.
  7. PALS certification provider from the American Heart Association preferred.

 

Education and Experience:


  1. Must have a documented Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited college or university. Preference may be given to those with a Master of Science in Nursing degree.
  2. Must have an unencumbered and current Registered Nurse (RN) license to practice in Michigan.
  3. Must have a minimum of five years' prior experience as a registered nurse providing direct patient care and have a minimum of two-three years' experience in the field in which they teach (maternal-child, pediatric, Medical-Surgical, or Ambulatory Care). Demonstrated satisfactory experience with teaching preferred, coupled with teacher evaluation and training experiences.
  4. Excellent written communication and organization skills; ability to work with students and scholars from diverse backgrounds, abilities, and needs.
  5. Knowledge of issues and trends in nursing education.
  6. Committed to rapid pedagogical, academic, and employment changes as driven by the healthcare industry.
  7. Experience in community relations and cultivating partnerships.
  8. Demonstrated good judgment and commitment to program excellence.
  9. Proven ability to work collaboratively with others.
  1. Maintain excellent working relationship with clinical agencies.
  2. Knowledge or experience in working with Native Americans, in a tribal college or educational setting preferred.

 

Physical Requirements:

 

  1. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods of time
  2. the employee may frequently bend, reach above shoulder level, kneel, and push/pull. 
  3. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, with or without support.
  4. The employee must use hands for repetitive action such as simple and/or firm grasping. have sufficient hand, arm and finger dexterity to operate essential equipment.
  5. Potential for exposure to workplace and environmental hazards.
