GENERAL SUMMARY:
Summary: The incumbent is responsible for the oversight of environmental health and safety practices, safety related variances, OSHA compliance monitoring, records management, and cost management with the objective of reducing workplace injuries/illnesses and simultaneously improving productivity. The incumbent will be responsible for safety risk assessments of the physical environment and safety rounds of all Bayhealth facilities. The incumbent is responsible for providing program leadership, guidance, training, and introduction of mishap prevention initiatives throughout Bayhealth Medical Center. Responsible for providing data and presenting data to the Senior Director of Emergency Management and Public Safety, Facilities leadership, and the Environment of Care Committee. The incumbent is delegated authority as a safety officer for the organization.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Ensures compliance with all applicable federal and state laws/codes which govern environmental health and safety; including all Joint Commission Environment of Care and Life Safety standards. 2. Establishes an inspection schedule and debriefs the manager of areas inspected and results. Ensuring all inpatient units and emergency departments are rounded on quarterly and off-sites semi-annually. Results of these roundings, audits, and assessments will be documented and presented to monthly to the Senior Director of Emergency Management and Public Safety. 3. Establishes an inspection and drill schedule for fire response protocols, fire response equipment, and eye wash equipment. Ensuring that all drills and equipment maintenance are in accordance with the requirements of the Joint Commission, NFPA, and authority have jurisdiction. Ensures that remedial training is conducted and fully documented when deficiencies are identified. 4. Develops, implements, and enforces policies and procedures to ensure the safety of employees and ensure compliance with regulations, guidelines, and best practices. Reviews these policies annually with a goal of creating a workplace that is free of hazards. This work includes analyzing and evaluating (with action plans) the use of all types of personal protective equipment, assessing effectiveness, and suggesting improvements where needed. 5. Develops, maintains, and submits on a monthly basis a safety dashboard, highlighting key safety data metrics. 6. Investigates all injuries related to environmental conditions, safety complaints, concerns, and variance reports. Reports findings to the Occupational Health and Safety Sub-Committee of the Environment of Care. 7. Leads the Occupational Health and Safety Sub-Committee and provides a summary report of committee activities to the Environment of Care Committee Monthly. 8. Responsible for the department safety officers program. Including development, growth, bi-monthly training, and documentation of the program. 9. Designs and implements safety program training(s) for the organization. Ensuring compliance will all required trainings and notifications per OSHA, NFPA, Joint Commission, authority having jurisdiction standards, and the needs of the organization. 10. All other duties as assigned within the scope and range of job responsibilities.
REQUIRED MINIMUM EDUCATION AND CREDENTIAL:
- Education Bachelor Degree Occupational Safety
- Credential Driver License Driving Record Required. Certified Safety Professional Basic Life Support -Within 90 days, if not already obtained.
EXPERIENCE:
Required: 4 years program safety management and program leadership experience. Experience developing and implementing a comprehensive safety program. Preferred: 2 years healthcare experience.
