SALARY RANGE: 18.17 - 26.51HOURLY
General Summary:
The Oral Oncology MA manages the overall administrative duties for oral oncology therapy by streamlining patient care in the cancer program in conjunction with the multidisciplinary care team. The MA collaborates with other members of the patient care team to coordinate the delivery of oncology patient care.
Responsibilities:
1. Patient Care Coordination: a. Initiate and maintain contact with patients via phone or in-person to discuss treatment plans and testing requirements and address concerns; b. Provide support and resources to patients to enhance adherence to oral oncology treatment plans; c. Reinforce educational information provided by healthcare providers regarding the oral oncolytic process, diagnostic procedures, tests, and labs; d. performing vital signs, phlebotomy, and medication administration as needed.
2. Administrative Tasks: a. Within the health record, wholly and accurately record patient data, progress notes, and interactions with healthcare providers, pharmacies, and insurance companies; b. Process authorizations and appeals for specialty and retail pharmacy services; c. Coordinate access utilizing resources such as non-profit grants and pharmaceutical manufacturer resources to assist patients with co-pay coverage. Coordinate and schedule appointments for required tests or sub-specialty referrals.
3. Clinical Coordination: a. Prescription Management by reviewing clinical details, completing prior authorizations, and submitting prescriptions to designated specialty pharmacies; b. Coordinate with pharmacy and nursing staff to ensure patients receive necessary education. C. Make reminder calls to patients for scheduled tests or labs.
4. Compliance and Documentation: Maintain accurate and organized patient records, treating them as legal documents requiring proper documentation and strict confidentiality; b. Ensure compliance by maintaining strict confidentiality of patient information and comply with HIPAA and Joint Commission guidelines.
5. All other duties as assigned within the scope and range of job responsibilities.
Required Education, Credential(s) and Experience:
- Education: High School Diploma or GED
- Credential(s): Basic Life Support
- Experience:
Required: Eighteen (18) months as a medical assistant.
Preferred: Two (2) years office-based medical assistant to include prior authorizations and prescription management.
