What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sr. Cytogenetic Technologist position at Baylor Genetics?
Job Summary:
Essential Duties may include the following, depending on the specifics of the position and relevant experience:
- Harvests cell cultures at optimum time sequence based on knowledge of cell cycle differences and culture conditions.
- Prepares slides of cell cultures, selects banding techniques, and stains slides to make chromosomes visible under a microscope.
- Performs analysis of G-banded or FISH slides in order to determine the presence of any structural abnormalities.
- Performs non-routine cytogenetic procedures as required.
- Ensures the quality assurance of laboratory equipment.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Education:
- Required: Bachelor's degree in biology or related field.
Experience:
- CGT I: required 0-2 years' experience as cytogenetic technologist
- CGT II: required 2-4 years' experience as cytogenetic technologist or relevant experience
- CGT III: required 4-6 years years' experience as cytogenetic technologist or relevant experience
- Senior CGT: required >6 years' experience as cytogenetic technologist or relevant experience
Certification/Licenses/Registration:
- Required for CGT II and above: Certification/registration as a Medical Technologist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists or certification as a Clinical Lab Specialist in Cytogenetics (NCA).
