Position Summary :
The Peer Recovery Specialist provides non-clinical support to individuals in recovery from substance use, mental health, or co-occurring disorders. This role calls upon a person to inspire hope, foster engagement, and promote resilience among clients. The PRS serves as a mentor and advocate, helping individuals navigate treatment systems, access resources, and achieve personal recovery goals.
Key Responsibilities :
- Peer Support :
- Offer empathy, understanding, and encouragement to individuals in recovery.
- Share personal recovery experiences to inspire hope and resilience.
- Build rapport with clients to foster trust and open communication.
- Resource Navigation :
- Assist clients in accessing community resources such as housing, employment, healthcare, and education.
- Provide information on recovery-focused support groups, programs, and services.
- Advocacy :
- Act as a liaison between clients and service providers to ensure their needs are met.
- Promote self-advocacy skills and empowerment among clients.
- Recovery Planning :
- Collaborate with clients to develop personalized recovery plans.
- Help clients set and achieve short- and long-term recovery goals.
- Crisis Support :
- Recognize and respond appropriately to signs of crisis, ensuring safety and de-escalation.
- Connect clients to crisis intervention resources when needed.
- Documentation and Reporting :
- Maintain accurate and timely records of client interactions and progress.
- Ensure compliance with organizational and state policies and confidentiality standards.
- Training and Development :
- Participate in ongoing training to enhance peer support skills and knowledge.
- Maintain Peer Recovery Specialist certification as required by Indiana law.
