JOB SUMMARY: The Quality Inspector is responsible for ensuring that all machined/fabricated components and assemblies meet established quality standards and specifications. This role involves performing detailed inspections of materials, processes, and finished products to maintain compliance with blueprints, industry standards, and customer requirements. The Quality Inspector collaborates closely with production teams to identify and address quality issues, ensuring continuous improvement and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
· Conduct inspections of raw materials, in-process machined/fabricated work, and finished products using tools such as calipers, micrometers, weld gauges, and other precision instruments.
· Inspect welds for quality, including size, appearance, and adherence to specifications, using visual inspection and other non-destructive testing (NDT) methods as needed.
· Fill out and save inspection reports and supporting documents (ex. Work orders, prints material certs, etc.)
· Assist employees with personal and company tool calibration on a regular basis.
Blueprint Interpretation
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and technical specifications to understand the job requirements.
- Verify part dimensions and tolerances against customer prints to ensure accuracy.
Quality Control
- Assist with first-article inspections and in-process quality checks to ensure parts meet strict tolerances using precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, protractors, and gauges.
- Identify defects or irregularities.
- Collaborate with teammates in the quality control department for final inspections and to resolve any dimensions, tolerances, or quality issues.
Safety and Efficiency
- Follow all safety procedures and wear required safety gear (safety glasses, steel-toed shoes, hearing protection) and maintain situational awareness to identify and mitigate hazards.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment to prevent accidents and ensure efficient operations.
- Optimize quality processes to improve quality standards.
Documentation and Reporting
- Log into all jobs via Global Shop when working on work orders to maintain accurate tracking of labor.
- Record inspection results, maintain detailed quality records (PPAP’S, customer inspection reports, etc.).
- Identify non-conforming products, generate non-conformance reports (NCRs), and work with production teams to address and resolve issues.
Continuous Improvement
- Actively participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities, including workshops, seminars, and certification programs to enhance job-related skills and knowledge, as required.
- Provide guidance to production staff on quality standards and inspection techniques.
- Perform all other duties as assigned or required to support the team's goals and maintain efficient operations.
Qualifications
- Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- 3 years of quality inspection experience in a fabrication or machine shop environment is preferred.
- Familiarity with welding processes, metal fabrication techniques, and quality inspection methods.
- Understanding of quality standards such as ISO 9001, AS9100, or industry-specific guidelines.
- Physical Requirements:
- Frequently lift and carry materials weighing 25-50 pounds and perform tasks like standing, walking, bending, and crouching for 8-10 hours per day.
- Possess strong hand-eye coordination, quick reflexes, and good depth perception for operating machinery, forklifts, and overhead cranes safely.
Work comfortably in loud, vibration-prone environments with varying temperatures.
