We are seeking a passionate, knowledgeable, and friendly After-School Chess Instructor to teach students ranging from beginner to advanced levels in a supportive and engaging environment.
Job Summary: As an After-School Chess Instructor, you will be responsible for teaching chess strategies, organizing games, and promoting teamwork and sportsmanship. Your role is crucial in helping students develop their critical thinking, problem-solving, and concentration skills in a fun and dynamic setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead engaging after-school chess classes for students in Grades K-5th
- Teach chess fundamentals, strategies, and advanced tactics in a structured yet fun environment.
- Foster a positive and inclusive learning atmosphere, encouraging students to collaborate and learn from each other.
- Plan and execute individual and group chess activities, including tournaments.
- Provide feedback to students on their progress and offer constructive tips to improve their skills.
- Communicate with parents and guardians regarding student progress and achievements.
- Ensure a safe, respectful, and supportive classroom environment.
Qualifications:
- Strong knowledge and experience in chess is a plus.
- Previous experience teaching or working with children is preferred.
- Patience, enthusiasm, and excellent communication skills.
- Ability to explain complex chess concepts in an easy-to-understand manner.
- Reliable, responsible, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
- Must be available to work after school hours, [include specific hours, e.g., Tuesdays and Thursdays, 1:30 PM – 5:30 PM].
Preferred Skills:
- Chess certification or formal coaching experience (but not required).
- Experience with different chess programs, software, or teaching materials.
- Strong organizational skills for planning and running tournaments or events.
Compensation:
- $45.00 - $55.00 per hour, based on experience and performance.
- Paid per session.
