Job Purpose
About the Role
We’re recruiting a US-based producer to join to join BBC Studios, working with BBC News on The Global Story podcast. The Daily Pod is being relaunched with new editorial vision, with a greater emphasis on narrative storytelling. The BBC is investing in the Global Story to become the equivalent of the “front page” of the BBC in North America. The show will provide a deep dive on one big international story every day, giving the audience a deeper understanding of the context and stories that lie behind major global events. In a moment of increasing turmoil worldwide, this show will attempt to keep listeners up to date on how the key issues of our time are playing out on the global stage.
Who You Are
We’re looking for a creative and passionate producer, who is skilled with taking initiative and wants to make the best audio output. You’ll have strong narrative audio production skills, with an understanding of how to tell stories by mixing interviews, sound, archive and reporting. You’ll be able to source the very best interviewees with fascinating stories to tell and know how to find audio that makes their stories even more compelling. You’ll have experience in international news or in narrative storytelling and your finger on the zeitgeist. You’ll be bursting with ideas and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
- Journalists on this pod will be responsible for delivering great ideas for stories, guests and audio treatments that give the podcast a strong identity.
- You will be responsible for sourcing and fixing the best contributors for the podcast, making sure the podcast hears from a diverse range of people with the most compelling and relevant stories to tell.
- You’ll mix the audio, weaving through archive, music, on the ground reporting etc to create high quality narrative storytelling in each episode
- You’ll brief the presenter ahead of interviews, developing the structure of interviews and working with them to get the best out of every contributor.
- You’ll often work to tight deadlines, and will need to be an excellent time manager.
- You will need to have a good understanding of the international news agenda and a track record in spotting trends and stories behind the headline.
- You’ll need to understand when to refer up on sensitive editorial issues.
- You’ll communicate effectively with the presenter, SJ, ass ed, and contributors to ensure things run smoothly and are delivered on time and to the highest possible standard.
Knowledge, Skills, Training & Experience
- The successful candidate will have experience delivering high quality audio storytelling while working with fast turnarounds and tight deadlines. You should be able to edit and mix audio quickly.
- You’ll have narrative storytelling experience, and will understand how to deploy narrative audio production techniques to create content that engages audiences.
- You must be an experienced fixer and be able to demonstrate a creative streak with the ability to make ear-catching audio that has impact.
- You will have a good understanding of the global news agenda.
- You will demonstrate awareness of and insights into the current podcast market, both inside and outside the BBC.
- You’ll have experience of working with presenters.
Compensation
The anticipated annual base salary for this position is $100,000 to $115,000. The actual base salary offered depends on the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and geographic location of the position.
This range is not inclusive of a competitive bonus, flexible, hybrid working schedule & benefits including but not limited to: 100% BBCS covered medical & dental insurance, vision, & 401k match.
This is a Full Time Contractor role for a minimum of one year.
