Our Orchid Team in Miami is Seeking a Deputy Class Underwriter - Political Violence to join our growing team.
To contribute to the development of the Miami's PV (Political Violence) portfolio, working closely and assisting the Miami PV Class Underwriter in all aspects of the underwriting of the Political Violence account, ensuring, as far as possible, that it complements the portfolio written in London.
How You Will Contribute:
Agreement and negotiation of renewals and new business in accordance with underwriting authority and where appropriate, individual budgeted goals within the Political Violence portfolio.
Agreement of endorsements / amendments / promised lines in accordance with underwriting authority.
Acceptance of individual declarations to specified line-slips.
Agreement of special acceptances and referrals to line-slips and treaties.
Ensuring accuracy of entries for business in charisma.
Undertaking Debt review and EPI tracking.
Pro-active Marketing to meet class and divisional budgets
Build on existing and develop new long term client relationships including where appropriate foreign travel
Build strong market peer group reputation.
Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders including the Head of Political Violence and Crisis Management and the Senior Class Underwriter.
Participating on and where appropriate chairing special projects as and when required in order to meet Chaucer’s long-term objectives.
Specific account analysis
Assisting Head of Latin America and PV Class Underwriter in preparation of any Executive Reports.
Coding and Risk Administration.
Liaison with Administration Department
Liaison with Claims Department.
Liaison with other international offices
Client liaison for allocated risks and / or in absence of Class Underwriters.
Referral point for direct report Political Violence Team members with Underwriting Authority.
Regulatory responsibilities - Manage the relationships with Customers, Agents and Service Providers:
Advise, assist and service customers on insurance and risk matters to promote customers’ satisfaction.
Foster positive relationships with customers and attain an understanding of their needs.
Ensure that customer complaints are promptly identified, recorded and referred as appropriate.
Ensure that the principles of Treating Customers Fairly (TCF) are upheld by Agents and Service Providers.
Skills & Experience to Be Successful:

Bachelor's Degree and minimum 3 years underwriting experience, preferably in PV (political violence) in Latin America
Technical skills: Use of Microsoft Office Suite; intermediate Excel and basic Word skills.
Knowledge and understanding of Underwriting Latin American Treaty Reinsurance.
Experience of negotiating with brokers and liaising with clients.
Understanding of business planning process.
Spanish speaker.
