Job Title : Quality Assurance Manager (QA Manager)
Reports To : Plant Manager
Department : Operations
Position Summary :
The QA Manager oversees food safety and quality assurance in a USDA / FDA-regulated manufacturing environment. Responsibilities include implementing and managing food safety programs, conducting inspections and audits, and leading quality and sanitation teams.
Key Responsibilities :
Food Inspections and Audits :
Enforce and maintain HACCP, GMP, and other food safety policies and procedures.
Develop and manage food security documentation and quality control standards.
Prepare for and oversee audits and inspections by USDA, FDA, and third-party agencies.
Food Safety Management :
Lead food safety programs (HACCP, GMP, SQF) and sanitation teams (8-10 day workers, 11-13 night workers).
Ensure compliance with product specifications, labeling, and regulatory standards.
Investigate and resolve customer complaints and manage documentation.
Maintain internal audits and conduct external audits as needed.
Oversee Listeria prevention, pest control, and sanitation processes.
Collaborate with R&D and production teams to support new product launches.
General Expectations :
Adhere to all company, USDA, FDA, and OSHA standards and guidelines.
Promote a safe work environment, report incidents, and address potential safety concerns.
Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant work area.
Position Qualifications :
Essential :
5 years in food safety (2 years in management) in a USDA / FDA-regulated environment.
Leadership experience in food safety, regulatory compliance, and quality assurance.
Proficiency in HACCP, GMP, and food safety programs.
Experience with regulatory and third-party audits (USDA, FDA, SQF).
Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
Ability to work in fast-paced environments and manage high production volumes.
Proficiency in Spanish.
Preferred :
Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, or related field.
Completion of SQF or similar certifications.
Physical Requirements :
Ability to work in hot, cold, and refrigerated environments.
Capable of lifting up to 40 lbs and performing physical tasks such as climbing and kneeling.
Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights.
Must use protective clothing and distinguish colors for coding systems.
