The Consumer & Retail Group operates within BBVA’s Corporate & Investment Banking (CIB) division, covering global clients in the U.S. and abroad. The team provides a full suite of advisory, capital markets, and global transaction banking solutions to Consumer & Retail companies with an international footprint. Our product offerings include M&A advisory, debt advisory, corporate lending, structured finance, bonds, FX/swaps, trade finance, working capital solutions, and cash management, among others.
Position: Associate – Consumer & Retail Group
The Consumer & Retail Group is seeking an Associate to join our New York office and support our coverage efforts. This position plays a key role in a client-facing team, working with colleagues across multiple geographies and supporting senior bankers on various sub-sectors and transactions.
Key responsibilities:
As an Associate in the Consumer & Retail Group, you will take on significant responsibilities in pitching and executing advisory, capital markets, and transaction banking deals for both public and private clients. Your role will include:
- Preparing pitch materials and participating in presentations to existing and prospective clients
- Conducting financial analysis, including valuation, M&A modeling, and broader financial modeling.
- Performing company and industry research using sources such as company filings, equity and credit research reports, and industry databases, summarizing findings for client-facing materials
- Managing internal approval processes, including credit requests and approval process for new transactions, amendments, annual reviews, among others.
- Coordinating closely with bankers in the United States, Europe and Latin America, and Product groups to manage all aspects of transactions, including proposal preparation and liaising with risk and Portfolio Management, Legal, Operations and Finance teams.
- Analyzing risk/return metrics on all stand-alone transactions and client relationships
- Tracking key client and prospect activity and maintaining revenue budgets.
We are a flat and growing team, providing direct and frequent interaction with clients and BBVA’s senior management.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree with 2 years of investment banking experience
- Strong foundation in financial modelling and valuation analysis in a professional setting
- Prior credit training, structured credit and / or M&A experience preferred
- Demonstrated record of academic excellence
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills
- Team-oriented, self-motivated and entrepreneurial mindset
- “Can-do / can-learn” attitude with a proactive approach to problem-solving and adaptability in a fast-paced environment
- Detail oriented with a complete focus on quality results/deliverables
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to work independently while thriving in a team environment
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects under tight deadlines
- Advanced proficiency Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
- Experience with CapitalIQ (or Factset), Bloomberg, and Euromonitor is preferred

With respect to this position in our New York Office, the expected base salary ranges from $120,000 to $130,000. It is not typical for offers to be made at or near the top of the range. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. In addition to salary and a generous employee benefits package, successful candidates are eligible to receive a discretionary bonus.

Salary : $120,000 - $130,000
