Position Summary
We are seeking a results-driven and strategic Controller to lead our Finance Department. This key leadership role will oversee all accounting functions, including Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), and the Credit Department, while maintaining and improving financial accuracy, compliance, and operational efficiency. The Controller will play a central role in financial planning and analysis, budget preparation, internal controls, and process improvements. This position replaces the outgoing Chief Accountant and is an opportunity to elevate and modernize our financial operations.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Leadership & Oversight
- Lead and supervise the day-to-day operations of the accounting department including AP, AR, credit, and general ledger functions.
- Manage month-end and year-end close processes and ensure timely, accurate financial reporting.
- Provide detailed financial analysis, forecasts, and reports to support executive decision-making.
- Maintain and monitor internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure financial compliance.
- Lead the budgeting and forecasting process in collaboration with department heads and senior leadership.
- Serve as the main liaison for audits and external financial reviews.
- Maintain all banking relationships and oversee treasury functions.
- Coordinate lease payments and agreements, ensuring timely execution and compliance.
- Manage company assets and oversee investment activity to support long-term financial health.
Team Management
- Directly supervise the AP/AR team and Credit Department staff, ensuring alignment with company goals.
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and professional development to team members.
- Implement and monitor KPIs to evaluate staff performance and departmental effectiveness.
- Foster a culture of accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Compliance & Controls
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state, and local regulatory laws and rules for financial and tax reporting.
- Review and enhance accounting policies, procedures, and systems for scalability and efficiency.
- Partner with HR, Operations, and other departments to align financial strategies with business objectives.
Strategic & Operational Impact
- Identify opportunities to streamline financial processes and improve reporting tools.
- Evaluate and recommend software or system improvements to better manage financial operations.
- Support leadership in evaluating business opportunities, pricing strategies, and risk management.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required. CPA or CMA strongly preferred.
- Minimum 7–10 years of progressive accounting experience, including 3 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
- Experience overseeing AP, AR, and credit functions in a mid-sized or multi-location company.
- Prior experience in retail, luxury goods, or inventory-based businesses is a plus.
Technical Skills
- Strong proficiency in accounting software, ERP systems, and Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, financial modeling).
- Knowledge of internal controls, audit processes, and GAAP.
- Familiarity with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis tools.
