Position Title: Research Assistant
Location: Windfall, IN
Pay Rate: $17.50 per hour on W2
Estimated Start Date: March 17, 2025
Shift: 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM
Duration: 12 Months with possible extension

Job Description:
We are seeking a dedicated and reliable Research Assistant to join our team at the Windfall, IN multi-crop research station. This position involves a combination of indoor and outdoor tasks, including fieldwork and sample processing. The ideal candidate should be able to follow instructions, work well with a team, and be comfortable working in various weather conditions. Tasks may vary daily and require adaptability in a fast-paced research environment.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Outdoor work: Heat, mud, dust - hands on work
• Reliable, follows instructions, Safety conscious
• Basic computer, iPad skills
  
• Day to Day: Placing wooden garden stakes in the fields, pulling samples from Wheat fields & loading into bags;
• Pull weeds in Field; Plant Sampling (cut leaves & ears and place into bin to take samples);
• cross pollinations. Inside Work = Take Inventory, Computer work:
• scanning bar codes
  Tasks can change day to day and be fast paced.
• PPE: we supply all PPE that would be needed except for Steel Toed Boots, which are only required for certain work.
• They most likely would not need those right away, and we would reimburse them if we tell them to go get some or order them.
• It is good for them to be prepared to be out in the field during all conditions (except Storms), hot, dry, muddy, rainy, etc
  
  
• The Research Assistant will perform a variety of routine tasks associated with the Windfall, IN multi crop research station.
• The tasks will include any or all of those described for the Field and Processing Worker, organization of samples during corn/soy harvest and/or, wheat planting.
• The type of task will be dependent on the stage of the annual research program and will be seasonal in nature.
• Tasks may be performed in an indoor and/or outdoor setting.
• The Assistant must be able to understand and follow both written and oral instructions.
• He/She normally receives general instructions on routine tasks and detailed instructions on new tasks. The work will be closely supervised.

Qualifications & Requirements:

• Ability to follow both written and verbal instructions accurately.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills.
• Basic computer and iPad skills.
• Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting and working outdoors in various conditions.
• Reliable and safety-conscious mindset.
• No previous experience required, but prior work in agriculture, research, or field operations is a plus.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• As with the Field and Processing Worker, can be responsible for performing a wide range of tasks or a specific task depending on the stage of the seasonal research program.
• Tasks may include: Field research operations related to planting, thinning, weeding, pollinations and sample harvest.
• Sample processing operations including preparation of supplies, sorting, scanning, weighing, preparation for shipping and seed packaging.
• General facility operations including general clean-up, organization of samples and supplies, and other routine tasks as they arise.
• The Research Assistant may also perform additional tasks as requested by the supervising Field technician.
