Job Summary

The Program Manager, Student & Family Support works to develop and implement a culture of inclusion and well-being for Beacon students, alumni, and their families. This role will collaborate with staff in the Academy Year, including the school nurse, Alumni team, volunteers, and partner schools. This position requires a combination of clinical expertise, leadership skills, and a strong understanding of adolescent development. This position is an important contributor to the overall health of the Beacon Community.



Responsibilities

  • Represent the core values of the Academy in all work performed and in all activities related to the lives of students, graduates and their families by demonstrating an excellent work ethic, personal integrity, confidentiality, professional maturity and thoughtful ambassadorship.
  • In conjunction with Academy faculty, construct individualized support plans for Academy students who are struggling academically and socio-emotionally.
  • Meet weekly with the consulting psychologist to assess ongoing current and alumni students of concern. Assess the mental health of students and alumns as needed.
  • Serve as the primary liaison for parents and caregivers with regard to student social/emotional issues.
  • Grow the existing Advisory program at Beacon in an effort to more holistically and effectively support Beacon students and families during the Academy year.
  • Manage crisis situations efficiently and effectively on an as-needed basis. Facilitate regular faculty discussions regarding the ongoing progress of Academy students.
  • Collaborate with the Program Manager, Alumni Support to create and manage a structured system of socio-emotional support for Beacon alumni attending partner independent high schools.
  • Advise a small group of students and offer guidance for their academic, emotional, and personal growth.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned.



Qualifications

  • Demonstrated commitment to the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging as evidenced by a practice which respects the dignity and self-determination of others and advocates for those with limited influence and opportunity.
  • Master’s Degree in social work, counseling, education, or similar field.
  • Minimum 3 years of work experience with youth (in an educational setting, preferred).
  • Experience conducting mental health assessments of youth
  • The ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with team members, students with diverse needs and their families, and community members.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and Google Workspace; comfort and experience with Blackbaud, preferred.
  • A positive outlook, an excellent work ethic, and a sense of humor.
  • Demonstrated ability to embrace and share the Academy’s mission.
  • Ability to travel and work evenings and weekends, as necessary.
  • Sound judgment, insight, and intuition.



Physical Demands

This position is based onsite in our school office environment and requires:

  • The ability to travel occasionally through the greater Boston area and Northeast, up to 10% of the time.
  • Evening and weekend work required, as needed.
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • The ability to work using a computer for long periods of time.
  • The ability to lift 3-5 lbs of materials.



Reports to: Director, Alumni Support Services and CEO & Head of School

FTE: 1.0

Schedule: Typically Monday through 9 am to 5 pm, with occasional nights or weekend work

Position Type: Full-time, exempt, year-round position (summers included)

Benefits Eligible: Yes

Salary Range: $65,000-$75,000
