The Position
BeaconPoint currently has an opening for a Lab Technician to perform a variety of analyses and laboratory functions in the daily operation and maintenance of a state-of-the-art food analysis laboratory.
These functions may include sample reception, preparation, instrument & test validation and analysis on instruments such as UHPLC, LC-MS, GC-FID, GC-MS, ICP-MS, and others for various analytes including fat, protein, moisture, ash, fiber, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients.
Responsibilities
You will be responsible for independently performing sample preparation, testing and recording laboratory data according to the company’s policies and procedures. Your responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
- Understanding and practicing the Good Laboratory Practices and accurate and traceable record keeping.
- Independently performing efficiently at each step along the flow of samples, e.g., sample reception, retention & disposal, sample preparation including extraction & homogenization, and analysis.
- Troubleshooting and maintaining equipment.
- Following testing methods exactly as defined by the SOPs. Becoming familiar with reagents, controls, and other general lab procedures.
- Proactively making your supervisor / lab leadership aware of any problems with equipment or test supplies and methods.
- Promptly working with your supervisor to address any nonconformance with the company’s safety and compliance policies.
Requirements / Qualifications
- Associate Degree in Science/Chemistry or related field. Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
- Previous food analysis lab experience is preferred.
- Experience preferred with instrumentation such as UHPLC, LC-MS, GC, ICP-MS and analyses such as Protein, Fat, Moisture, Fiber, Carbohydrates, Vitamins, Minerals, etc.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
