DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS AT BEAGLE FREEDOM PROJECT A NON-PROFIT 501(C)(3)

Beagle Freedom Project (BFP) is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to the ultimate mission of ending animal testing. Through rescuing animals from animal testing laboratories, running insightful and challenging campaigns to raise awareness and close laboratories, to outreach, education, and legislation, Beagle Freedom Project has become a leading organization in the fight against animal testing.

BFP also rescues and advocates for other special needs animals and works tirelessly to end the archaic use and abuse of animals in many forms of exploitation.

BFP is seeking a dedicated, experienced, assertive, and compassionate Director of Operations who will maintain the integrity of BFP while working daily to ensure the organization is ever-expanding in doing as much as possible to end the animal testing business.

Therefore, the role of the Director of Operations at BFP requires a commitment to BFP’s mission and values. This person must also be not only comfortable, but enjoy the company of all animals, not just dogs and cats because BFP rescues other animals in need. The animal testing industry does not discriminate; it tests on animals like goats, sheep, horses, pigs, alpacas, and more. BFP has rescued and continues to rescue these animals and now has a sanctuary where many of them live.

The Director of Operations must also be willing and able to travel. Traveling to the sanctuary in Oklahoma at least twice a year is also a requirement.

Responsibilities will encompass the overall day-to-day functions and management of BFP’s personnel and functions and organization-wide support and collaboration regarding BFP activities and ongoing funding efforts.

The Director of Operations will also strategically contribute to the direction of the organization including development, fundraising, campaigning, programming, and implementation of organizational strategies, policies, and practices.

Candidates must be comfortable multitasking and are required to have previous experience in a related position in a non-profit and be passionate about animal welfare.

Responsibilities will encompass the overall day-to-day operations and management of BFP’s personnel and functions, as well as organization-wide support and collaboration regarding BFP activities, programs, campaigns and ongoing funding efforts.

Duties will generally include, but are not limited to :

Developing and maintaining internal policies and procedures necessary for an efficient and effective working environment.

Managing volunteer resources and communications.

Managing and overseeing campaigns, programs and legislation with relevant staff and others involved.

Managing and overseeing rescues, transport, events and resources involved.

Working with appropriate personnel to identify and research potential funding sources; preparing packets, background materials, and research to present to funders; Drafting grant proposals, reports, and various correspondence for funders and be responsible for their timely submission.

Responsible for planning, organization, and direction of the organization’s operations, campaigns, programs, compliance and day-to-day functioning.

Develop and implement consistent inventory and cost accounting policies, procedures, and operational reporting / metrics.

Prepare accurate and timely analyses that capture and communicate fundraising results, variances, and performance trends.

Provide leadership to and manage the efforts of the entire staff to ensure appropriate support in all departments.

Coordinate and lead annual budget reviews as well as annual 990 and audits.

Retain a diverse, highly qualified staff, interns and volunteers by providing career coaching, growth, and personal development to employees.

Ensure that services and funding relationships are robust enough to meet or exceed strategic goals and objectives.

Support the administrative needs of the President.

Manage and train staff, including leading staff meetings and maintaining accurate human resources records across all functions. This involves employee recruitment, preparation of paperwork for new hires, new hire onboarding and training, compliance with all state and federal labor laws, scheduling and conducting employee reviews, contact person for employee issues, and updating and maintaining current job descriptions for all positions.

Develop and maintain internal policies and procedures necessary for an efficient and effective working environment.

Establish and maintain business standards for accuracy, productivity, and reliability.

Prepare annual performance reviews and reevaluate processes.

Ensure that regulatory compliance and legal rules are followed.

Manage budget to align with goals of business.

Manage vendor relationships..

Engage volunteers, donors, and sponsors throughout the year through events and regular communications.

Oversee day-to-day operations and ensure efficient processes.

Other work-related duties as may be assigned.

Work Hours & Benefits :

Working at BFP is more than a career, it’s a lifestyle. Employees are committed to the mission of BFP and therefore work accordingly. This means that besides regular 9am-5pm weekly hours, the Executive Director will most likely also work some nights and weekends.

Salary is commensurate with experience and starts at $70,000.

  • Can manage Excel, MS, Dropbox, Google Docs, Quickbooks, and other systems with ease.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Non-Profit or Management preferred
  • College degree required
  • 4 or more years of non-profit leadership experience required
  • 4 or more years of management or supervisory experience required
  • Demonstrated experience in senior leadership positions
  • Exceptional skills in strategic planning and business development
  • Leadership qualities that inspire and motivate teams
  • Quickbooks, Excel, MS, and other software platforms.
  • Ethical Requirements : Vegan or Vegetarian and live a cruelty-free lifestyle.
