TEACHER - SPEECH, LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST
JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Purpose Statement/s: The job of "Teacher – Speech, Language Pathologist" provides individualized education programs to students. The teacher is responsible for developing, implementing and relating the daily activities of the students to the core curriculum. Through continuous collaboration with a variety of individuals and groups, including parents, district and county personnel and various agencies, the Teacher provides for the academic, social and emotional growth of each student by using a variety of instructional strategies. The Teacher continually assesses students’ progress to maximize their fullest potential.
For the current assignment, the Teacher will identify and provide remedial services for students with impairments of language, speech and hearing. This position serves as a resource person to regular and special education teachers.
Line of Authority: The Teacher – Speech, Language Pathologist is directly responsible to the Coordinator of Special Education.
Essential Job Functions:
* Provides adequate supervision for all children.
* Develops daily instructional plans, including Individual Education Plans (IEPs)
* Interacts with parents, district and county personnel and public agencies.
* Assists students in age-appropriate activities and behaviors.
* Assists in the coordination of students’ general education program.
* Maintains accurate student records and current records.
* Provides individualized instruction to students.
* Monitors student progress.
* Prepares various forms of correspondence (including parent notifications and administrative requests)
Other Job Functions:
* Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
* Participates in various meetings (e.g. parent conferences, in-service training, site meetings, etc.) for the purpose of receiving and/or providing information and/or meeting credential requirements.
Job Requirements - Qualifications:
* Experience Required: Experience teaching or student teaching special education students, working on student IEPs.
* Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required:
Skills in diagnosing speech errors and correct remediation techniques in a variety of delivery models, preparing and maintaining reports and records.
Knowledge of standardized speech and language assessment instruments, their administration and interpretation, language development and phonology, alternative methods of communication, assessment of non-verbal students.
Ability to maintain appropriate records, work and communicate effectively with students, parents and public agencies, maintain a flexible schedule, and travel to various locations.
Physical Abilities to stand and walk for prolonged periods, perform a variety of specialized and responsible tasks, maintain records, establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, parents, other school personnel, meet schedule and deadlines. Significant physical abilities include lifting/carrying, reaching/handling, talking/hearing conversations, near/far visual acuity/depth perception/accommodation/ field of vision. The teacher is required to perform the specific activities and work in the setting identified in the specific job announcement.
* Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required: Valid California Language Speech and Hearing or Clinical Rehabilitation credential; demonstrated experience successfully teaching or student teaching special education students; valid California Driver’s License, Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance.
