What are the responsibilities and job description for the Aircraft Rescue & Firefighter position at Beaufort County South Carolina?
The Aircraft Rescue & Fire Fighting Officer (ARFF) performs routine and emergency airport operational duties such as dealing with aircraft alerts/mishaps, handling rescue/firefighting tasks, and operating emergency vehicles and communication equipment. Responsibilities include conducting runway and terminal safety checks, responding to emergency medical evacuations and aircraft incidents, performing routine maintenance on vehicles and equipment, maintaining recordings for the Station, reporting emergency incidences, and generating aircraft notifications.
The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
- Conducts airport field safety inspections, including runways, taxiways, airport buildings, terminal, gates operations, apparatus checks, fuel trucks, and vehicle and equipment checks.
- Inspects airfield safety elements, including pavements, lighting, signage, and navigational aids by FAA Regulations
- Complies with mandated FAA training and related mandates.
- Issues/cancels Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs) along with other airfield safety and operational notification requirements.
- Issues Field Condition Reports (FICON).
- Logs, tracks, and responds to wildlife sightings and reports received.
- Conducts regular inspections and monitoring of aviation fuel service operations and stormwater pollution prevention plans.
- Responds to emergency medical evacuations and coordinate patient triage at incident scenes.
- Maintains Airport Fire Station via cleaning and maintenance; provides fire protection to all private and commercial aircraft and any vehicle on airport property.
- Handles terminal opening and closing; conducts safety checks.
- Performs regular audits of daily self-inspection records and documentation to ensure completion, accuracy, validity, discrepancy correction action, and compliance with FAA standards.
- Performs related administrative recordkeeping, logs, and reports; completes required government compliance paperwork.
- Performs other related duties of a similar nature or level.
- First to respond to all after-operating-hours calls related to security, operations, maintenance, and administration.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- High School Diploma
- NFPA Firefighter 1 & 2 Certification.
- At least 3 years' experience as a Firefighter.
- Must obtain NFPA 1003(Aircraft Rescue Firefighter) Certification within 90 days.
- SC/NREMT Basic Certification.
- Knowledge of the use of firefighting equipment, protective clothing, and related gear.
- Able to lift to 50lbs and maintain a fitness level commensurate to firefighting duties.
- Valid State driver’s license.
- Obtain EMT certification (next available course).
- Maintain related certifications and competence.
- Pass security background and drug test.
