Shipping Supervisor
Position Summary
Primary and overall responsibilities are: 1) Ensure all company outbound shipments are shipped accurately and timely. While customer order shipments represent most of the workload, also responsible for outbound sample shipments and other freight and parcel package shipments. 2) Daily Shipping functions, transactions, and documentation (SAGE X3 ERP and Customer Portal) performed accurately and timely. 3) Overseeing and supervising the work of Shipping.
Responsibilities and Essential Duties
- Ensures all daily shipping functions are completed daily, including:
- Preparation of all freight documents.
- Labeling pallets.
- Pallet pulls and put-away.
- Phone/email correspondence with Customer and internal personnel, as well as Carriers.
- Shipment information entered into SAGE X3 and customer portals, accurately and timely.
- Ensures all related shipping and inventory transactions completed daily.
- Works cross-functionally with Production, Quality, and Sales (and all departments) to ensure smooth and accurate shipment of customer orders promptly upon Quality release.
- Oversees and manages the Shipping team to maintain productivity and teamwork in completing all daily activities; expected to be a problem solver.
- Ensures appropriate training and development for all department Associates to maintain quality, safety, and productivity standards.
- Works seamlessly and collaboratively with inter-department personnel to ensure daily work functions and transactions are completed accurately and timely.
- Prepares regular shipping reports for management, and as requested by other departments.
- Follows and abides by the Company Employee Manual at all times.
- Holds department staff accountable for daily attendance according to company policy.
- Tracks and reports on daily department work activities and metrics, as defined by management.
- Reports and adheres to KPIs.
- Cross-training to ensure the position/responsibilities have a minimum of 2 individuals trained to ensure the job can be successfully completed in the event of daily employee absence or scheduled vacation times.
- Works with other departments to ensure that project goals and expectations are met.
- Maintains a safe and clean work environment at all times by following published SOPs and Work Instructions.
- Owns and leads special projects, as needed.
Qualifications
Technical Skills Required
- Scan gun experience.
- Experience with MRP/ERP software highly desired.
- Forklift Certified.
Experience Required
- Bachelor’s degree desirable, actual work experience may be substituted at upper management discretion.
- Ability to read and understand formulas, procedures, and SOPs.
- Strong math and computer skills.
- Accurate and legible record keeping skills, with attention to detail.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- Complete other duties as assigned by the Manager/Director.
- Ability to convert from pounds to kilograms and vice versa accurately.
- Able to manage multiple tasks on a daily basis.
- Ability and desire to learn more than just the basics of responsibilities and duties, and able to guide others in the department on SOPs and Work Instructions.
- Ability to be trained in writing and implementing SOPs and Work Instructions for the department.
- Excellent organization and analytical skills.
- Experience with MRP/ERP software highly desired.
Physical Requirements
- Regularly sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time.
- Ability to sit, balance, climb, stand, bend, squat, squeeze, kneel, turn, crouch, and stoop repeatedly.
- Physically able to lift 75 pounds and manipulate up to a 500-pound drum on a regular basis.
- Frequent exposure to varying temperatures, loud noises, heavy machinery, fumes, or airborne particles.
- Prolonged use of computer screen and/or scan gun.
