OBJECTIVE:
This position is accountable for assuming the responsibilities for the safety, supervision, monitoring, daily pickup and delivery of children in need of special education from their designated pickup to their school and their safe return from school to their pickup.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Responsible for being aware and responding to any need or problem which a child in need of special education has which may cause difficulties during transportation, i.e., behavioral concerns, seizures, or any disability.
2. Responsible for crossing children safely, when necessary.
3. Responsible for making sure children are seated safely and remain seated and buckled when riding the bus.
4. Responsible for reporting behavior problems and maintaining appropriate behavior of children riding the bus.
5. Responsible for all children being accounted for during pickup and deliveries to and from school.
6. Responsible for being trained to take necessary emergency measures.
7. Responsible for assuring equal educational opportunity to all individuals regardless of race, color, gender, age, marital status, religion, gender identity, natural origin, sexual orientation, homelessness, or disability.
8. Performance of other job-related duties as assigned.
9. Responsible for assisting the driver in the pre-trip safety inspection, as needed.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High School diploma and Associate's degree preferred.
2. Physically capable of performing duties (lifting, carrying of children, ambulatory and prosthetic devices)
3. Awareness and sensitivity for children with special needs.
4. Ability to work closely and cooperatively with driver(s) to ensure as safe and comfortable a ride as possible for students.
5. Working knowledge of effective techniques of discipline and behavior reinforcement.
6. Knowledge and ability to provide services for children with special needs; keep them safe and as comfortable as possible in transportation
7. Successful completion of CORI and National background check
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Possess personality traits conducive to working with children with behavioral needs and/or training or experience with Applied Behavior Analysis.
2. Flexible and capable of handling emergencies using sound judgment.
This will be for morning & afternoon school bus run as well as normal school hours.
