Do you have experience working with youth in a community-based environment? If so, Beech Brook is currently hiring a PRN Respite Care Specialist. This position serves short-term therapeutic relief to youth who are enrolled in the OhioRise plan. The program’s goal is to improve child and family outcomes and reduce healthcare costs. The youth will be under the age of 21 who has Serious Emotional Disturbance (SED) to prevent an inpatient or out of home stay. Respite services may include general supervision of the child, meal preparation and hands-on assistance with personal care. Different activities include, supporting the child in the home or in the community while providing respite activities to support the youth. The Respite Care Specialist will complete a progress note for each interaction and work no more than 24 hours per week. Work hours are primarily evenings and weekends when youth are not in school. Regular hours are not guaranteed.
EDUCATION
- GED/High School Diploma, or higher
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Ability to work with diverse populations with complex needs impacted by poverty
- Schedule respite sessions with the family with youth in their home or community
- Provide transportation for the youth to the selected community activities
- Follow agency protocols and meet documentation requirements of respite sessions in a sound and timely manner.
- Knowledgeable of agency’s preferred methods of treatment, approved /prohibited activities
- Identify client strengths
- Use effective methods to establish and maintain parent communication
- Flexible and adaptable in order to meet the needs of the youth based on the family and youth’s availability
- Demonstrate cultural competency
- Communicate effectively verbally and in written format, including relationship building skills
- Utilize computer as appropriate for documentation/reporting
- Follow safety protocols
- Travel to various locations as needed
- Other duties as assigned
MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- Excellent communication and relationship building skills
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work independently and cooperatively as a team
- Access to a computer and comfortable using Word, Excel, Outlook
- Must have a valid Ohio driver’s license with no more than 5 points
- Able to provide own reliable transportation
