SUMMARY
The EH&S Coordinator – Barnwell position is a hands-on plant level position. The purpose of this role is to learn & eventually fill the role of EH&S Manager (1-2 year timeframe). This person is the technical expert-in-training at the local Barnwell level related to EH&S matters, and often is participating in employee (HR matters). The role is to learn to enforce and implement the corporate procedures on the local single plant level, and work closely in a matrix organization with the direct reporting to the EH&S Manager with dotted line reporting to both the Director of Environmental Affairs and the Director of Health & Safety.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Environmental:
- Responsible for facility initiatives related to the environmental aspects to be addressed
- Supervises and oversees maintenance of the EMS and facility management procedures
- Reports on performance of the EMS to the Plant Manager for management review and as the basis for continual improvement
- Oversees and enforces compliance with the EMS
- Provides and / or arranges for all personnel environmental training, as required
- Maintains and oversees keeping of environmental records, as required
- Maintains working knowledge of permits and regulations applicable to the facility, and performs inspections to ensure compliance with the same
- Ensures that all required environmental compliance monitoring data is collected, maintained, and transmitted in a timely manner
- Oversees the hazardous waste receiving / manifest tracking systems to ensure that regulatory requirements are achieved
- Participates as needed in compliance assurance and EMS auditing programs and conducts routine informal facility inspections to monitor compliance on a real-time basis
- Develops working relationships with field level regulatory agency personnel
- Supports corporate environmental efforts related to permitting, reporting and data management
- Coordinates with Corporate Director of Environmental Affairs.
- For environmental projects:
- Inform vendors and contractors of environmental requirements, and work performance expectations
- Collect and maintain vendor / contractor environmental information
- Arrange for vendor / contractor training on EMS and compliance aspects, as necessary
Health & Safety
- Leads and promotes a safety-first culture in collaboration with plant management team.
- Facilitates, develops, and maintains site Safety programs including to ensure compliance with OSHA requirements.
- Proactively participates in safety meetings/committees and conducts regular walk-through inspections and identifies hazards to be corrected.
- Coordinates with Corporate Director of Health & Safety.
- Tracking of biological and other safety related metrics.
- Leads training course or coordinates third party vendors to conduct required site training.
Human Resources
- Participate in hiring and safety orientation for new employees. Supervise administrative assistant who coordinates the time and attendance data for the corporate payroll specialist.
- Relay grievances or other employee issues to corporate Human Resources department including the Sr. V.P. – Human Resources, EH&S.
- Act as a caring and thoughtful member of management for employees to talk to.
PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- BS in Environmental or Health & Safety or a closely related field.
- Minimum 5 years of functional/technical experience.
- Manufacturing or other heavy industry experience is preferred.
- ISO 14001 system or other system experience would be helpful.
- Effective written, oral skills and presentation skills
- Ability to communicate effectively from the CEO to the shop floor
- Hands on approach to getting things done
- ERP implementation experience is a plus

Pay: $50,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
