Join our Stop Domestic and Sexual Violence Program! The Housing Navigator is responsible for providing support, information, and advocacy as necessary to tenants housed through our Domestic and Sexual Violence permanent housing program in addition to providing direct services for victims of domestic and sexual violence.
- Provide ongoing services to individuals residing at our permanent STOP Domestic & Sexual Violence housing program including scheduling apartment viewings to determine safety within Program, setting goals for overall safety and wellbeing, and creating interactive activities to create a sense of community for all residents to promote quality of life.
- Advocate with clients regarding DSS, Plattsburgh Housing Authority, community housing agencies, and other agencies to meet individual needs/goals.
- Assist individuals with immediate housing needs: furniture, electricity, moving needs, etc. Assist clients with safety planning, goal setting regarding health care, child-care, education, employment, volunteering, etc.
- Maintain billing information and records, ensuring compliance and follow through in a timely manner
- Provide on-going support services to those impacted by domestic and sexual violence including, but not limited to, supportive counseling, transportation, advocacy, safety planning, safe housing, childcare, assistance filing court petitions as well as compensation claims with the Office of Victim Services, and follow-up to clients as deemed appropriate
- Participate in back-up coverage to volunteers on the hotline during non-business hours
- Provide outreach to the community and participate in community events
- Communicate agency philosophy about domestic violence
- Participate in agency initiatives, trainings, and staff meetings as required
- Additional duties as assigned
- High School Graduate or equivalent, Associate degree in Human Services related field preferred
- One year experience in social services setting preferred
- Valid NYS or other State driver’s license
- Reliable transportation for travel required
- Strong commitment to upholding the mission and values of the STOP Domestic & Sexual Violence program, with the ability to meet the role’s demands with or without reasonable accommodation, as requested by the Human Resources Department.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
