Job Summary
BELL Construction is hiring a Grading Superintendent in Nashville, TN. The Grading Superintendent is responsible for managing the daily operations of a grading crew on a sitework project, performing grading work, ensuring safety, schedule delivery, and quality of work performed in adherence to the project budget.
Job Responsibilities
- Provides direction for grading crew to meet the requirements of the grading plans provided.
- Tracks production of crews to ensure adherence to the production goals and schedule.
- Use and manage a crew using GPS enabled grade control equipment.
- Manage the overall direction of the jobsite, including coordination with inspectors, engineers, other crews, project management staff, and owner’s representatives.
- Coordinates with inspectors to ensure compliance with installation.
- Ensures the safety of the project by adhering to all Bell Policies and OSHA safety standards.
- Develops and monitors company field policies, procedures, and training.
- Effectively mentors and provides training for field employees.
- Plans, directs, and prioritizes crews and trades to keep the project moving and on schedule.
- Efficiently manages material resources (equipment, facilities, and materials needed to complete work).
- Works with Project Managers to develop schedules, budgets, schedule of values and construction reviews.
- Keeps daily reports and weather logs current and accurate.
- Manages employees effectively (promote, direct, delegate and discipline).
- Uses sound judgment and decision-making to choose appropriate actions.
- Communicates effectively with other trades or subcontractors regarding scheduling and coordination of work to meet deadlines.
- Effectively identifies and resolves potential problems, work interferences, and schedule difficulties.

- Successfully builds and maintains good working relationships with the project design team and ownership parties and effectively communicates necessary information clearly and timely. Ensures a harassment-free workplace for all employees.
Education & Experience
- Minimum required – 5 years of heavy civil construction experience with increasing responsibility . OSHA-30 preferred.
Knowledge & Skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Thorough understanding of grading and utility operations.
- Understanding of GPS controlled equipment and types of equipment to perform specific tasks.
- In-depth understanding of material types in order to provide efficient material movement & placement. Understands the use of EPSC measures and compliance to local standards.
