What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Mechanical Design Engineer position at Bell & Associates, Inc.?
The Senior Design Project Engineer is responsible for planning and executing product development activities including new product introductions, cost reduction, technology integration, and lifecycle product support.
Major Responsibilities
- Provide project management leadership to teams for new product development projects including concept creation and team collaboration, specification and scope of work documentation, creating project schedules, building product development plans, integrating the activities of cross-functional team members, managing, and coordinating 3rd party resources.
- Lead the transformation of product roadmap and requirements into project scope, design, and product realization requirements such as product features and specifications required to create models, drawings, and supporting documentation needed for sourcing or manufacturing.
- Plan and execute multiple large, complex projects to meet or exceed schedule, project cost, scope, and quality commitments. Budget planning. (Estimate 3rd party engineering and rendering expenses)
- Lead project and business affecting decisions such as make vs. buy (globally), shipping and logistics cost, bidding process, optimizing as-delivered cost of components and whole installed product. Lead preliminary supplier sourcing decisions.
- Collaborate with estimating and sales to establish product cost targets and measures. Assist with the identification and establishment of supply chain resources for initial materials, technology, and services required to achieve design goals.
- Provide technical summary reports for design reviews such as expected performance results based on simulations, performance criteria of engineering level evaluations.
- Develop and lead Risk and Mitigation plans for projects. Define and lead contingency option assessments when needed, then select and execute mitigation plans.
- Manage ECR / ECO / ECN process. Change management criteria include issuance of change, management of change through all departments, and final review of acceptable implementation of documented changes.
- Create test prototypes to evaluate designs. Coordinate the generation of prototypes at 3rd party suppliers or in house resources.
- Create test plans for product performance evaluation. Execution of compliance / validation testing at 3rd party resources or in-house testing and evaluation. Creation of summary reports of test results and notification of out of compliance occurrences. Mitigation of out of compliance occurrences and validation of changes prior to production release.
- Manage bill of materials (BOM) process. Review and approve all production released BOMs pertaining to assigned projects for accuracy prior to final production release.
- Provide technical assistance to production and quality personnel to assist in the successful launch of products in-house or at 3rd party sites. On-site monitoring for in-house and 3rd party sites to ensure compliance.
- Provide ongoing technical assistance for adaptation of existing or modified products for new customer applications or requirements.
- Assist account management with field trial installations or research investigations when necessary.
- Create and support departmental operating procedures.
