Job Summary
BELL Construction is hiring for a Senior Estimator to join their Heavy Highway group in Brentwood, TN. The Senior Estimator - Heavy Highway will be responsible for creating preliminary budgets and cost estimates for large scale bridge and highway construction projects.
Job Responsibilities
- Prepares and/or reviews all estimates and estimating activities in the Heavy Highway Division to ensure accurate estimates for material, labor, equipment, subcontracts, and construction facilities, and ensure coordination and successful completion.
- Coordinates the assembly of all preconstruction material for presentation purposes to the Owner.
- Ensures compliance with all specifications, contract requirements, and Bid Invitations.
- Reviews cost estimates for customer proposals, considering general and special conditions.
- Responsible for the solicitation of subcontractor/material suppliers, and when needed, takes the lead in the solicitation process to ensure proper bid coverage.
- Prepares bid packages and obtains/analyzes bids from subcontractors and material vendors.
- Participates in bid day strategy and decision-making on profit percentage.
- Ensures that potential risk factors have been identified, evaluated, and reviewed with senior management (i.e., contract bond authorization, contract review, insurance review, etc.) and are resolved timely.
- Promotes the growth and development of external partner relationships to facilitate successful project execution.
- Attends Client meetings and maintains regular contact to ensure their satisfaction with project progress and results.
- Represents BELL and project teams in a positive manner in all project meetings and presentations to secure new work.
- Participates in industry related organizations to network and promote the interests of BELL.
- Keeps current on changes and trends in methods of construction, materials, costs, wage rates, etc.
- Identifies and helps qualify new material suppliers and subcontractors.
- Develops and maintains Heavy Bid libraries.
- Performs additional responsibilities as requested.
Education & Experience
- Minimum required - Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum required – Ten (10) years of Heavy Highway/Civil estimating experience.
Knowledge & Skills
- Extensive experience in bridge and highway construction estimating.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Word.
- Advanced knowledge in Viewpoint, Heavy Bid, Agtek, Aashtoware, Bid Express, or equivalent software.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project estimating skills, including execution of engineering calculations and ability to effectively communicate with Owners, Engineers, Project Managers, Subcontractors, and Vendors.
- Competent in reading, understanding, and organizing construction plans and specifications.
- Ability to work independently under pressure while exercising excellent judgement, meeting established deadlines, and paying attention to detail.
- Strong verbal & written communication skills, including delivery of clear and persuasive presentations.
- Understands the bid process as it relates to the company’s financial success.
- Ability to develop project schedules for bidding purposes.
