Job Description:
The Analytical Perfumer combines expertise in chemistry and fragrance evaluation to analyze, develop and refine fragrances. This role uses gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) to identify and quantify fragrance components in various applications and to ensure quality, consistency and customer satisfaction. The Analytical Perfumer works closely with the Perfumery and Regulatory teams to ensure fragrances maintain their intended scent profiles and adhere to industry standards.
Job Responsibilities:
- Gas Chromatography Analysis: Utilize gas chromatography equipment to analyze and identify the individual chemical components of fragrance samples. They are skilled in interpreting chromatograms to determine the composition of a fragrance. Identifying key components of natural essential oils is a necessary requirement in this field.
- Fragrance duplication plays an important role at Belle Aire Creations; an Analytical Perfumer’s qualitative interpretation as well as their quantitative results will be heavily relied upon by the Perfumer. The Analytical Perfumer should have the ability to handle a high volume of fragrance duplications.
- Fragrance extractions from all types of products. Our fragrance lab will be given private label or national brand products with fragrance to extract and duplicate. The Analytical Perfumer is required to extract fragrance oil from various products using different techniques and solvents.
- Utilize Gas Measurement Headspace Analysis to understand the composition of a fragrance and to modify the formulas to meet customer and industry requirements.
- Quality Control: Ensure that the developed fragrances meet specific quality standards and are consistent with the desired scent.
- Documentation: Accurate record-keeping is crucial in the fragrance industry: Maintain detailed documentation of all experiments, formulations, and analytical results. This information serves as a reference for future development and regulatory compliance. The Analytical Perfumer should be able to follow all standard lab protocol for documentation and record keeping.
- Research and Innovation: Staying updated with the latest trends, technologies, and industry developments is essential. They continuously explore new ingredients, techniques, and advancements in gas chromatography to enhance fragrance creation processes. This position requires to update a fragrance ingredient library. Willingness to learn SPME and gather data through this analysis.
- Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including marketing, sales, and production, to ensure effective communication and alignment throughout the fragrance development process. They provide technical expertise and guidance to support product launches and client interactions.
- Regulatory Compliance: Adhere to safety guidelines, industry regulations, and legal requirements related to fragrance development and handling of chemicals. They maintain a safe and controlled working environment.
- Professional Development: Actively participates in workshops, conferences, and training sessions to enhance their knowledge and skills in fragrance chemistry, gas chromatography, and related areas. They stay informed about emerging trends and techniques in the field.

Requirements:
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, chemical engineering or a related field
- Minimum 5 years Analytical Perfumery training and experience; preferably a member of the American Society of Perfumers
- Experience working in a laboratory environment, ideally in a fragrance-related setting.
- Knowledge and proficiency in Gas Chromatography (GC) techniques.
- Odor evaluation skills preferred but not required.
- Exposure to a wide range of fragrance materials and the ability to discern and describe different scent profiles accurately.
- Ability to effectively manage multiple responsibilities and tasks regularly
- Exceptional people/team and strong collaboration skills
