The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent in Training is a very important position, which demands extensive turf grass knowledge, organizational skills, and dedicated efforts towards building an effective and enthusiastic team.
Job Summary
- Involved in accurately mixing up chemicals and knowing all mathematical/calibration calculations to ensure each chemical application is applied correctly according to the label.
- Responsible for daily set-up of carts/mowers to help efficiently schedule staff.
- Responsible for water management on Bentgrass putting greens
- Manage safety protocols and ensure adherence to Club policy.
- Team first mentality
- Ensures daily course set-up is performed to championship standards
- The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent in Training will understand daily scheduling for the golf course before leaving the maintenance facility.
- The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent in Training will be involved in the supervision of golf course maintenance employees.
- Will adopt the understanding that the golf course maintenance staff is the biggest asset to the golf course and will be committed to providing supportive behavior.
- Responsible for providing an environment where an employee can be successful including providing proper training and job descriptions.
- Goal oriented, must be an aspiring superintendent and work one on one with fellow mentors to understand professional goals and coaching.
- Responsible for facilitating end of day operations including but not limited to shop clean up, break room clean up, and equipment being stored properly.
Requirements
Education/Experience:
4 year Bachelors degree in agronomy related field No prior experience Required
Or
2 year Associates degree in agronomy related field 1 Year of previous golf course/agronomy experience required
Or
1 year turf certificate in agronomy related field 2 years of golfcourse/agronomy experience required

- Understanding/knowledge of the game of golf.
- Positive attitude, punctuality, cleanliness and well-groomed is imperative.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts, fumes and/or airborne particles. Frequently works in outdoor weather conditions. Noise level is moderate.
- Valid Driver’s License required.
- Successful applicants must be able to obtain Missouri Certified Pesticide Applicator License within 30 days of employment
The role of the Assistant-in-Training is crucial to the overall development of the team and is expected to perform as a leader of the crew. This role will require supervision of the staff over weekends and active communication with the membership
