Newport Craft is looking for a Brewer / Cellar Person to join our team at our facility in Newport, Rhode Island. This role is responsible for the company’s daily wort production and cellar operations. As a part of the Brew Team, this role is also responsible for collaborating on new recipes, process improvements, and improving the overall efficiency of NCBD’s production brewery. Brewers are collectively responsible for ensuring the highest quality product for all distribution markets.
Position and Responsibilities:
- Execution of all brewing-related tasks including operation of a 30-bbl manual brewhouse, DE filter and keg cleaner
- Follow Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs) for all production processes
- Ensure the general upkeep of grain storage, overall brewhouse and cellar areas
- Develop, maintain and follow cellaring processes and procedures to ensure the highest quality products
- Record production and batch data using brand sheets and EKOs
- Work with Brew Team on recipe development, alternative cellaring techniques and to enhance overall production efficiency
- Support the packaging and canning line as needed
- Operate forklift to move pallets of supplies, equipment and product
- Participate in team training activities and assist in customer-educational opportunities (tours, client visits, events etc.)
- Promote an atmosphere of cooperation, teamwork and respect within the company
- Adhere to and advance NCBD’s core values and safety culture and procedures
- Perform brewhouse tasks as needed and help to enforce a clean and safe workspace
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 2 years of experience at a production brewery
- Formal brewing education, training, certifications or accreditations a plus
- Working knowledge of the brewing process and malt milling, brewhouse and cellar equipment
- Team player with a positive disposition, level head, sense of humor and strong work ethic
- Good time-management, interpersonal communication skills and thorough attention to detail
- Ability to work independently, a desire to take initiative and enjoys meeting and interacting with people
- Comfortable speaking with customers to share industry knowledge and educate on our brands and products
- Ability to be flexible and shift priorities in a fast-paced work environment
- Desire to work with a crew who loves what they do, values learning and strives to be their best selves
- Comfortable driving a box truck and forklift a plus (will certify as necessary)
- Basic knowledge of industrial safety/compliance standards a plus
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Valid Driver’s License
- Must be at least 21 years of age
