Job Summary:
Bellevue is currently hiring summer camp staff for summer 2024. Join our team as we have a fun summer connecting campers with nature and history at Bellevue and across the State!

This position is responsible for leading and coordinating the day to day running of summer camps. This includes leading activities/lessons/games, coordinating travel around the park and to other locations, leading the counselor team and delegating tasks, and ensuring a safe and enjoyable environment for all staff and campers. This position is also responsible for communicating camp matters to supervisor, camp parents/guardians, and park/camp team members.

Bellevue summer camps run from June 16th through August 15th, on a weekly schedule (there is no camp on June 19th or July 4th). Staff training is held in the first two weeks of June with one Saturday training on June 7th. Camps themes include nature, history, art, and fishing. Bellevue has three ages groups: 6-8 years, 9-11 years, and 12-14 years old. Camps are relatively small with group sizes up to 16 campers.

Work is performed indoors and outdoors. Weekends, evenings, and holidays are scheduled to meet facility needs.

Essential Functions:

  • Lead educational and recreational activities focused on building lasting connections between campers (and other park visitors) and the natural and cultural resources around Bellevue State Park.
  • Help coordinate and implement summer day camp a Bellevue State Park.
  • Communicate with camp families (parent/guardians) about upcoming camps and what they need to prepare, daily happenings at camp, and any concerns that come up.
  • Lead and participate in games, crafts, and other day camp activities.
  • May deliver interpretive programs to participants of all ages in a variety of contexts.
  • Provide general customer service and park information to visitors.
  • Maintain a clean and tidy environment in all camp areas.
  • May lead educational and recreational hikes and other programs for park visitors.
  • May drive the park mini bus for field trips or staff trainings (mini bus training provided)
  • Must demonstrate responsibility, dependability, and good communication skills.
  • Maintain a positive attitude.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

Camp Director

1. At least 21 years of age.

2. One year experience working in a camp program for children or young adults.

3. One year experience in supervising groups, staff or volunteers.

4. Knowledge of various recreational activities such as hiking, mountain biking, boating, rock climbing or swimming.

5. Knowledge of local plants, animals or history.

6. Possession of a valid driver’s license (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).

This is a Casual/Seasonal position which is a non-pension eligible position without healthcare and/or other benefits.
